Back in the late 70's or early 80's Lee Majors (aka The Six Million Dollar Man) starred in a TV movie about a guy driving a kid across country while a bunch of bad guys try and stop him. While the plot was nothing to write home about, the car he was driving was very interesting.

From what I remember, the car was a two seater Can Am style sports car which looked similar to a 917/10 and was painted a solid shade of deep orange or perhaps crimson with no markings or livery.

Anyone able to shed any light on what kind of car this was?

I went to IMdB and found the film You're looking for- The Last Chase (1981). Maybe if You ggogle around a bit, You'll find something, and it might jog a few memory cells around here. Hope it helps. :)

EDIT- if you go to credits section You'll se Bill Brack listed as Porsche driver... all Your hints/recollections seem to be right. :)

Looks like 917/10 to me. Granted the poster might not be accurate but it certainly looks like what I remember.

If it is a Porsche, I wonder which chassis was used.

Anybody...anybody...Bueller?

Was this not discussed previously? Sorry, I'm too lazy to do the search myself.

Regardless, the Porsche 917/10 in question here turns out to be some hack with a Panzer-like body tacked on. I saw the movie many years ago and in one scene, it was apparent that it bore little family lineage to a 917/10.

Falcadore gave this link in a previous thread called: "Best and worst racing movies":
"The Last Chase (that Lee Majors film with the 917 and F-86)
http://us.imdb.com/Details?0082642"

I believe this movie wasnt rated so high....

The car does rings a bell to me: Fleischmann... ;)

But serious wasnt it a kit car on VW base looking like the 917-10. Because this is not real...

Those photos are proof that Hollywood actually believes you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Indeed, on a quite different level is THX 1138 (both in cars and story told).

But you discussed those cars before here:
