I've never been to Italy before, or Bologna, when you arrive at the airport, what hotels do you recommend that are pretty close to some coach or transport to get to the gp?

I've done no traveling what so ever in Italy. assume I know diddly about nothing.

I've been thinking I should make the best of europe gps, since I'm in London, and there shouldn't be too pricey as I originally wanted to do Canada this year, but that's getting too expensive for me, I'm seriously considering Imola for a weekend trip.

Don't know how much help this would be..... I went last year with my wife and hooked up with about 8 other Minardi fans......

1: Stayed at the Hotel Executive in Bologna...... was clean and not too expensive. The hotel was about 1 mile to the train station. Checkout hotels.com...orbitz...sites like that to find hotels.
2: We took the train to Imola from Thursday through Sunday.
3: Loved the whole atmosphere at the track...... the food there is sooooo much better than what I have had at Montreal, Spa, & Indy for the USGP.
4: check out the Autodromo Imola web site for ticket info.....
5: forgot to mention that it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the track from the train station....of course we always stopped to get a gelatto on the way back.
6: Read where Imola is honoring Gilles Villeneuve this year at the GP......

hope this is of some help........ I will be heading to Monza this year......was supposed to do Spa as well for a 2-fer...but thanks to Bernie's greed that isn't happening........'sigh

Cheers for the knowlege. Will respond to it properly after I get my past my next hurdle:

I'm currently having difficulities purchasing a ticket online, having no luck.

I tried this site last night
https://www.grandpri...sbtnGSearchmeta

The grand prix main ticket site, gave me a error page after I paid by credit card, is this site the real deal? I phoned up, they put me on hold, sent e-mail, no quick repsonse yet, maybe the office hours was different, as I made it 10pm UK time.

I feel better buying from this UK site, as I'm in the UK, but I'm waiting to hear if my transaction went through on the GP site above.

GOnna try this site later if I need too.

Where do you lot get your tickets from in the past?

We ordered our tickets through the Imola autodromo website. Since I live in the States, I had to go through sending $$ to their bank.....stuff like that. Friends of ours from Ireland didn't have to do all of that. We picked up our tickets at their ticket agency (SAGIS.Spa) in the town of Imola early in the week of the race.

I always buy my tickets through the venue instead of outside ticket agencies.... I save $$$ that way...... for Monza this year I ordered 3 tickets from the track and they were cheaper by about 30 euros apiece from what I was quoted from 3 other ticket agencies........

Where are you sitting for the weekend........ On Friday, since you can mostly go anywhere, I spent time at Tamburello, Variante Bassa and Variante Alta....... On Saturday we had seats at Acque Minerali, and on Sunday I was at Tosa B.

Hope everything works out for you as you will really enjoy Imola.......

Thank you, I eventually ordered from a outside ticket agency, easy gp tickets, because I couldn't use my card this week, and was geting inpatient, but I'll definately order from the venue agencies next time and save more money, perhaps if I go Monza this year!

The ticket I have is general admission, plus Rivazza, for saturday and sunday.

Where else can you go and see corners with general admission? On saturday, or exits near corners like Acque Minerali? Or is it closed off.....

I arrive at Bologna 9:45am by COACH, then hopping into the train to Imola, practice session 3 starts at 11am right?

Takes 25 mins to get to Imola from Bologna train station central.

Rivazza will be wild on Sunday........ thousands on thousands of tifosi....it should be something to behold.................

For Saturday, I am sure that one can stand inside at Tamburello as I did to take some pics on Sunday's 2nd qualifying session last year. Also, just up from there is the Senna memorial. When I sat at Aque Minerali there were a few GA types alongside the fences besides the grandstands. I liked Varainte Alta, but I was on the outside in the grandstands and didn't see any GA area there..... there is one on the inside but I liked Tamburello much better....... also there are good GA views on the outside leading up to Tosa B.

The FIA timetable shows the morning practice on Saturday from 11:00am to noon. Remember that you will have a 15-20 minute walk from the Imola train station to the track. As you walk down and into the track, you will see people at the fences as you come up the overpass...... I'm sure that will be packed but it is the closest area to view from with GA. If you want to head to Tamburello, just continue on the road in the track and make a right to get on the road that goes pass the soccer field.....which becomes a heliopad during the race weekend....... follow that road and you come to the inside of Tamburello............... you should have a great time......the atmosphere is simply electric.

I guess I'll make my way to Tamburello on Saturday as the first corner, you've sold me on that, seems fitting as that corner has so much history, with Senna's accident there, be a sentimental factor in going there for that, and also watching the first f1 cars go around there in person.

I'll probabley see myself running to the track in case I'm a bit late, frantic fast moving weekend, done a budget, but f1 is my interest, so no complaints, not there to relax, I can't relax on a gp weekend much anyway, so better to be moving and running around! I'll see how it pans out, hopefully my coach arrives early and on time.
