I`m hoping some experts here can tell us. I got this from a website that pulled it. I had it saved for a while, and figured that I should not let it rot on my computer.
I think I hear the announcer mention Australia??
edit: this could be one of the support races for the 1978 Australian Grand Prix at Sandown Park.
Another poster enlightened me.

EDIT. Just checked it- yep, it's that movie. And I think Arturo, also very recently, posted a link to better quality/resolution video of Modena. I'll look up that thread and post the link.
EDIT #2 Fangio vs Brabham video- thread. Fangio @ Modena video- thread.

Sorry that I made the duplicate thread.
I love the clip, and watch it from time to time when racing needs it.

But who are the other drivers?

I don't think I've ever seen footage of Sandown before. The "safety" arrangements were a bit primitive, although I did spot the odd length of Armco! Nothing to stop the cars going into or through the horse racecourse fences .... no wonder there were some serious shunts in the main AGP!
Did you notice the marshal who had the temerity to show Fangio a blue flag? And I love the way Jack shuts the door at the first corner!
Incidentally, the commentary said Fangio's car was a 3-litre: a mistake or one of the stretched engines used in S American FL races?

Sandown used to have some reasonable good points, but some bad ones as well. I think the bad ones have mostly got worse, the good ones have hardly got better.

The only bad thing is the bit in front of the grandstand (the track)
On my first visit to Sandown I was amazed that I could stand in a position where the only thing separating me from the cars was a bit of rope! (1983 I think)
It has improved a great deal, you can now buy as much heroin as you want within a 500 metre walk from the place.

Then again, they're in the grandstand, aren't they?
The other bad thing about Sandown that's gone is Paul Higgins, of course.

The 3-litre engine was not inclined to the same extent as the 2.5, so W196s so fitted had a bulge in the centre of the bonnet. I think that this is visible on the car in the film.Originally posted by Alan Cox
Reference Vitesse's last post, the Mercedes museum have certainly run 3-litre-engined 196s in modern demos.

Also, in the other video entitled "Fangio", what track is that? The condition of the pavement is horrid!

The jam donuts were good too but they were behind the grandstand.Originally posted by Ray Bell
