im sure there must have been some scandanavians, but a search of the BB reveals nothing in this thread for the name "Lars".

Lars Sexton was a guy i raced against (a fat b*astard as i recall) who flirted with some junior series in the mid 90's i t hink.

Surely room for one of my favourites here - USAC/dirt driver Colby Scroggin.

And 'Hut' Stricklin's real first name was Waymond - don't think there's too many of them about either...

Axel Grease...tends to be around motor sport. And Axel Powers did well in the 30s.

Didn't Hut have brothers called something like Raymon and Laymon?

I've got a Raymon Thackwell in my database (New Zealand / F2 & Tasman Series between 1956 & 1966) but that's all... :(

I still wonder if it's correct

How about:

Leanne ( Ferrier-Tander ) [Aust F3]
Jean-Marc ( Gounon )
Mercedes ( Stermitz )
"Toulo" ( de Graffenreid )
"Taffy" ( von Trips )

Obviously the last two are nicknames, but still unique ones as far as I'm aware.

Seven years late, but that's wrong. Mercedes was named after the wife of the French Daimler importer

Mercédès was Emil Jellinek's daughter, not his wife. I wonder why none of us picked up on WHITE's error seven years ago.

Because we all wondered who Rudolph Benz is/was, and what he had to do with cars and/or racing?

Mercédès was Emil Jellinek's daughter, not his wife.

Here's the wikipedia article, FWIW:
http://en.wikipedia....llinek-Mercedes

There is an irony, of course, in that Jellinek is a Jewish surname. Adolf Hitler rode around in a limousine named after a young Jewish girl:

I came across a Professor Achille C. Varzi who taught at Columbia and rather liked his "non-CV".

This comes a decade late, but Moisés was actually his second name, the surname being Estéfano (and Nasif was spelled with only one s)

Yes, post #9 ;)

Roelof is is not an unusual Dutch name BTW, the best known motorsport-related Roelof here in the Netherlands was ice speedway hero Roelof Thijs.
