We`re going to race go-karts this coming weekend, and I really have not been driving them for a while, but this time we`re on a proper fast track with 15 dudes trying to beat each other.

So I just wanted to ask do go-karts have anything special I should take in count in, which would make them go faster?

You see I really want to beat these guys, they are mostly foreigners and I`m a Finn so this is a question of national pride you see... and I thought that I`d ask for some tips how to drive faster :D

I`m going to do some training with my pc to see if I`ve still got it ;)

What kind of Go Karts will be these ? Proper ones, or just the usual lawnmower engined rent-a-carts ? :)

Anyway, you should eat many beans, just for the supersonic effect, and you should jump a little bit on your seat at the acceleration. :)

Slow in - Fast out.

Very small slip angle (= do not slide very much).

Depends on track and Kart, but there may be time in shortening the track (=not the classic racing line).

Good luck

I`m not sure about the cars - I just hope they go fast.
My friends have made the reservation, but I think it`s this circuit:

Yeah, the driver.

Lyhyesti, pera ei saa luistaa, jarrutaminen... vittuuks ma suomea osaan kirjoittaa. Don't oversteer all over the place, drive really smooth which includes getting on and off the brakes and throttle, and all movements with the steering wheel. Initial turn-in doesn't always have to be silky smooth, sometimes a bit of a jerk to get the thing to turn-in. Don't listen to the people that tell you to move around in the seat to move weight around, sit upright and look where you're going, forget about leaning in/out.

An obvious sign that you are doing things horribly wrong is hitting the throttle when you are entering the corner because you started braking too early, doing it once or twice is ok, if you do it lap after lap you may as well pack up and forget about pride, you're a wuss.

Less obivous is stuff like choking the exit, if you find that have to turn the steering wheel more as you are exiting the corner to avoid running off the track, you got on the gas too early, went in too fast, or stuffed up your line. Steering after turn-in for most corners should remain almost at the same spot and then you unwind. Generally you should only be moving the steering wheel at most 90 degrees to the left/right, more means you're doing things horribly wrong or your tyres are shot.

Concentrate on getting on the gas EARLY... don't try to gain time by going into corners really fast. Good amateurs are always on the gas earlier than the slow ones.

Start a bit cautiously for the first lap or two out on track rather than going too fast right away, you might feel you're on the limit but might be way over it which is dead slow.

Thats it for my random guide.

Onks taa muuten suomessa, milla radalla?

There's also a fair few threads here about karting, a thread seems to be started about twice a year.

That's a hell of a kart track. Forget all the above and just enjoy!

Actually, I'd say that, considering the running time will likely be quite limited, the most emphasis should be put in trying to find the correct line (esp. if there is corner combinations, late/early apexes and things like that) and making sure that all of the track is used where necessary. If a corner feels easy, chances are that you're not getting the most out of it so maybe you need to focus on that one. The rental karts are often quite underpowered (although that may not be the case) so the difference in slow on entry and fast on exit is often not that high, so beware of not slowing down too much as keeping speed up may prove essential; usually you'll be on full throttle at the apex so if that doesn't take you exactly to the outer part of the track on exit or if you need to turn hard to make the corner at the end, adjust the entry speed accordingly.

Go on an practice 1 little bit on any track near you. It could be a hell of an advantage.
