The way qualifying is currently setup it's like 3 separate events. There always great tension on the last lap. Usually qualifying is only an appetizer for the main course, but these days the main course seems lacking at times. So, which to you feel is more exciting to watch?

I love the first two sessions in qualifying...
Livetiming and i'm searching the 16th and 10th time...
And I love the last 10 minutes of Q3.
Except the first Q3 10 minutes...the qualifying is really good (for me)...

In race's case...
If you love Alonso, last races were really good and amazing...
If you love racing and overtaking you could think they were boring...

In every session there are exciting moments although overall they tend to be boring.

Most exciting moment of race is propably start, but it does not count in the end of race to the excitement factor of whole race so much. Another exciting moment in race is if quicker driver is chasing slower and tries to overtake. If he succeeds, it was exciting, factor depending on who one likes, or it can be boring if positions do not change.

The most exciting moments of qualifying are when someone has put good time and following other drivers trying to beat it. There can be several of these exciting moments. Also who drops is exciting moment.

So in both sessions there are exciting moments, but because race is so long and monotonic, and with quite few exciting moments, this leads to think that qualifying might even feel more exciting than race. It depends.

Q1 and Q2 are brilliant, while Q3 end up brilliantly. But it's onl;y better that the race when the race is Silverstone or Barcelono etc. i think you catch my drift.

Yes, qualifying used to be rather straightforward. With the current system it's more about catching someone off guard. This uncertainty factor, contrived or not, makes for more drama. And in all honesty should make for a more interesting race, as those in faster cars stuck in the back of the grid should be able to crawl their way up the field. Of course it hasn't always worked out that way.

Then perhaps you'd care to explain why 'Qualifying' is winning at the moment? :D

No. If we had old rules (no race-fuels), I would say yes.

The Fuel burning Session must be the dumbest thing motorsport had ever brought out

If you are a fan of a driver that isn't in a SA, Midland or Renault, Qualifiying sessions 1 and 2 are brilliant. I've had my heart beating in my throat more then once. the 3rd session however is a bit dull, but it's not that all that bad.
As for the race, this season is just plain boring...

So, to answer the question, yes, qualifying is more exciting then the race. Funny (and sad) isn't is?

That brings up the real question, I think. Without live timing, just relying on what's on the TV screen, you have no idea what's going on. If I recall correctly, they had more info on the screen earlier this year. So, what's more exciting, watching the cars, or watching the live timing? :)

Bring back the 12 lap free-for-all. That was epic stuff.

This qualifying isnt too bad, I finally caught a session during this Canadian GP. The first two dropout rounds were pretty good and the final seession was boring like everyone has said. They should just make it a free for all for everyone and let them use how much fuel they would like with no consequence in the race

I like qualifying, especially as it pressurises the teams into making a cockup (Honda at Silverstone? :D)

At least you get *some* excitement, unlike the races which are snore-fests for the most part.

Live timing.

As one of many here who has attended a race this year I can say, categorically, that if you can't see a screen when you're at the trackside then you have zero chance of working out who gets what and when. Qualifying is, IMO, a great TV spectacle. Brilliant, in fact for the first two sessions especially when a big name drops. But Q3 is just yawnsville for so long that you forget you should be watching and suddenly it is all over. Thank God for Silverstone FM radio.

Amen.

But ofcourse the FIA will never do that because that will proof that they have been wrong ever since 2002.

I think the qualifying is amazing this year. Just if they could take fuel out of the equation, shorten the session by 5-10 mins give them an extra 1-2 sets of tyres for q3 and it would be perfect.

To be honest I have been paying attention to live timing more and more latelyt. What I know for sure is that watching a race without live timing is becoming more and more boring.
