I think this move is unique for changing the categories. But there have been some F1 drivers doing some one offs in NASCAR like Rolf Stommelen in 1971, Jochen Rindt and Jim Clark in 1967.

Some close-ish ones would be anyone who did IROC, Robbie Francevic going from a F1 BRM in the tasman series to NASCAR, or Graham McRae becoming a NASCAR engineer for Kenny Bernstein

Ireland took part in the Daytona 500 in 1967. Innes was always ready to tell a story against himself and did indeed set the car up to oversteer in practice although Andretti put him right on that before the race. In the race Innes was up to 10th place when the engine gave up on lap 126. I've put a page on my Innes site about this, you can read it here if you like. Sorry about the slight dig at Clark - somebody has to do it!Originally posted by bradbury west
IIRC, dear old Innes Ireland raced a couple of times in stockers. I seem to remember that he set the car up and drove in the conventional racing way, and lunched all his tyres in about ten laps. It might have been in the Team Rosebud days, must look it up in All Arms....

I have no knowledge of his ever racing NASCAR. He did contest one of the other US stock-car series - I'd have to check which when I'm not at the office.
But I'm pretty sure that was before his abortive BRM foray

I guess this might be a case of the story getting bigger every time it was told Dave ;) I'd be interested to see what your research shows

No, the Indy 500 was part of the World Drivers Championship which was something else than "the Formula One schedule" - remember 1952/1953!Originally posted by bira
