Article from the itv.com:
" In an interview with a Belgian newspaper last week, Ecclestone said Hakkinen was totally lacking in charisma and repeated his desire to see Michael Schumacher win. He said: “You can’t create a personality. Mika has no charisma, and no one knows that he is world champion. He is cold and enclosed – in short the type of character that Ron Dennis appreciates. He prefers sheep to those with their own ideas.”
Perhaps understandably, Dennis was not impressed with Ecclestone’s remarks. He was particularly incensed by the fact Ecclestone let slip his support for Ferrari. In the past, Dennis has made no secret of his view that the Italian team receives preferential treatment from the FIA, of which Ecclestone is vice-president.
He told Motoring News: “I’m surprised that Bernie, in his many roles, would express an opinion on drivers – it would be more appropriate to be neutral.”
Dennis launched a spirited defence of his man Hakkinen.
“I thought the objective in Formula 1 was to win races,” he retorted. “But if you know Mika as a man there is nothing further from the truth than what Bernie’s feeling is.” "

So please give your opinnion on this. Personally I think that Bernie has followed to much this bb

I must admit the FIA should be neutral. And must add the the FIA should revise its regulations.

I'm very angry with Bernie, so I'll be a little rude to him.
So Mika has no charisma???

Bernie, look at yourself...you're ugly as ****, and that bitch Slavica Radic(who is from my country Croatia) married you ONLY FOR MONEY. In our local newspaper that chick said that Bernie is the most charming man in the world, and that's why she married him. What a bunch of crap. Just look at them both and you will see the picture.

Shame on you Bernie...

Now onto the poll...

The FIA and Bernie lack professionalism and it hurts the sport. They're setting a bad example. They need to set the right standard and do their jobs the way they were meant to.

Bernie's comments wouldn't bother me so much if his ONLY influence in F1 concerned commercial issues. after all, why wouldn't a promoter want dynamic characters to present?

then again, who are the dynamic characters of F1 now? is Bernie actually suggesting that MS is dynamic? perhaps by comparison to MH, yes, but in the grand scheme of things--PLEASE.

they're all to much like corporate automatons, and when they do step out of line, it's completely contrived.

Bernie's a dink ... and in his position he should be neutral. Mika is a great driver as is MS. However an argument can be made that Michael winning in a Ferrari would definitely provide more would be "better" for the sport than Mika winning in a McLaren (again). Also, is the same team winning 3 years in a row good for any sport?

Let's be honest, to those who do not follow F1, what the hell is a McLaren? Everyone knows what a Ferrari is and it would get more attention.

Also, not that it really matters, but, if the sport wants to catch on and grow in America, I feel that a well spoken (understandable), press conference friendly champion would not hurt.

Bottom line: Bernie's should be quiet and RD should knock off the conspiracy theory bullsh!t (what would he have said if the cover from Ferrari's box was missing???)

Bernie is just all about business. The carmaker most identified with Formula One is Ferrari. Bernie surely believes that without Ferrari, viewership and attendance would surely drop etc... as would his take home pay. So of course, he wants them back as champions (which they are, by the way--just not the driver's which is what people remember)

But the sport is NOT Formula Ferrari and he should show some respect to the other teams and champions that make this wheel turn. He has no business talking that way--the guys are athletes, not actors (no disrespect to Paul Newman, but there's a guy to look at: you wouldn't know he was Jack Who when he's at the track).

Bernie should set it up for Tom Cruise and Matt Damon to qualify for superlicsences. How about Ashley Judd?

Part of why I love the sport so much is all of the nuances. You can get the nature of a man by the way he drives the car, and of a teamowner by a shot of the expression while he's looking at the monitor (I mean, Frank Williams does not give much away but we're still intrigued). Granted, it's entertaining to hear these people talk about each other, but when it comes down to it, it just doesn't matter because we as the audience, form our alliegances by the decisions to which we are not privy that are made on and off the track.

Keep the cult of the personality off the track Bernie! Let your audience decide!

Bernie, if any, is totally lacking charisma.

I'm beginning to dislike the guy even more, if possible....

As the majority so far I also condemn B.E.:s sayings. I just wonder what possible motives does he have behind his words?? Money? Maybe he thinks he might be getting more money (advertising and so on...) with someone more flashy as a WC, which of course is a load of bull, if someone is interested in my opinion about that kind of things..
I would not be keen to believe the words just slipped out...
if, then he should maybe do something else than give interviews about F1 and the drivers there. Maybe he had had a big party yesterday and was still a little :stoned:. Anyway a man in such big boots should consider little harder what he says publicly... Those kind of remarks are neither professinal or give a particularly good image of the sports in general... Don't give a **** what he thinks of Mika in private.

:pHail Bernie:p

Shaun, I saw an interview with Mr.Eccelstone where a finnish journalist asked him straight out if he had said those things. MrEccelstone looked very uneasy, mumbeled something about it being good for the sport if Ferrari won and then hurried off so I do not doubt for one second that Mr.Eccelstone said that.

Well if you are not a member of FIA you are entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is sowhat. Eccelstone is a high official with FIA though and has no buisness showing support for one part in the title battle when its this close and only 4 races to go.
