I want Kimi WDC.
Anyhow, given how it's impossible this year, I want Alonso WDC and Ferrari WCC.

Michael.. not because I think he "deserves" it more or because he needs it now or because he's shown true sportsmanship this year or because it would be great for him to have another WDC but because 2 WDCs already for Alonso would be just too quick and easy. :)

And it's not as if 7 or 8 will make a difference (or would it be 9?).

That being said though right now it does look like Alonso might have a proper fight on his hands if he wants to take the title this year.

I want Schumi to be the WDC, then retire - and Kimi to drive for Ferrari in 2007.

It is much like 1998 mid-season when MS was closing the gap with Hakkinen. Only, he has a better car now.

Michael obviously.

It will also highly please me because that would give those idiots who were saying "he doesnt have it anymore" "he's not motivated anymore" "he has lost the speed" blabla last year a good whooping.

Michael is on top of his game and is doing everything he can right now.

Actually, I assume Ferrari will vanish into the ether, since according to 40m & Tonto they only exist and operate for the benefit of Michael Schumacher.

 ;)

Can't wait to see him gone, but Alonso not winning the title (which I was quite sure he was going to win not too long ago) would be quite a heavy price to pay.

Anyway MS has much more fans on this board which is fine by me...I wonder though who the posters who support neither MS nor FA voted for and I'd be very suprised to see them voting for MS - someone who has proven to be so dishonest in order to achieve his aims.

I don't understand.

We have the chance of a year with two great drivers in the same team... and everybody wants one of'em to retire?

Wouldn't Michael's critics like to see him with a beyound-doubts top driver as teammate (although those seem to forget Nelson Piquet...) ?

I want MS to win this year and I want to see him against Kimi in 2007. There are a lot of potential fights, drama and excitement on this pairings.

And, of course, the possibility of witness F-1 history being made by a driver reaching 100 victories would not hurt 2007, either.

MS (as interpreted by officals) broke the rules - and was punished.

Is every other driver who breaks the rules and is given a stop-go penalty or other punishment also a 'proven cheater'?

Fisichella, Villenueve, Ralf, Speed, etc etc etc - all 'proven cheaters'? Hey - they have all been penalised for breaking various rules. If not, I would be interested to hear an explanation of such a dichotomy.

ON TOPIC - I hope Schumacher wins this WDC. For the interest he has introduced to the championship. For all those who would rather MS was already retired - could you imagine Kimi or Massa or anyone else making keeping the season alive as it is? We would all have switched off already........

You could just rename this poll (and many other past polls too to be fair) "Do you like Michael Schumacher or not?". ;)

Michael. He didn't try to show 89 fingers last Sunday after crossing the chequered flag. He doesn't believe this year is easier than last year either.

Or "Do You like MS, Ferrari, Brawn, Todt or not? What do You think of 94 Adelaide, 97 Jerez, 2002 Austria? What do You think of having clear No1 and No2 policy, team orders? How many WDCs has won MS with clearly superior equipment? Why is MS the bigest cheater of all time? Did MS really not see DC at Spa in 98?"

Whatever.

Surprisingly on many fronts (and ignoring the fact that neither isn't really an option) I'm leaning toward Schumacher. That said what I'd REALLY like is for them to get as close on points as possible and have car performance even out as soon as possible so that we can see an ontrack fight for the championship as the season closes.

You could do the same thing with every discussion here as well (change "Michael Schumacher" to "Michael Schumacher and/or Ferrari" to cover all bases).

To measure genuine opinion this poll should have had the following options:

* Fernando Alonso
* Michael Schumacher
* Alonso (because I hate Michael Schumacher)
* Schumacher (because I hate Fernando Alonso)
* Schumacher (because I want him to **** off and die)
* Die F1, Die!

That was funny! Yep should be like that if you have a couple of votes...:)

No seriously I prefer Alonso because I think he´s better, has been better.
When the Renault has been good, Alonso has been in a league of his own.
Fisichella hasn´t been there at all.
When Michael has won, Massa has been there too in almost every time indicating that Massa could have done the job too if he had the support (assuming he had another teammate).
I don´t think many drivers could have done what Alonso did, Kimi excluded.

I guess Alonso since I've never ever liked Schumacher, but I haven't minded much the Ferrari comeback since it made the championship more competitive.

Raikkonen would be my choice but now it's impossible really.

I want the old point scoring system back. :|

Seeing that this is likely Alonso's last chance winning the championship in the forseeable future, and that he is a talent deserving of at least 2 word titles, I vote Alonso.

I'm being torn apart right now. After the winter testing, I was sure that Schumacher would win the WDC with the revised rules, so I put a bet on him and I would earn a hefty sum of money if he wins.

On the other hand, so far Alonso has been the better (and cleaner) driver, so IMO he'd deserve the win more. Can't vote.

For it to be cheating the breach of the rules has to be deliberate. Only if Fisi, JV, Ralf, Speed, whoever intentionally broke the rules are they cheaters.

I feel a bit ashamed ans astonished but I somewhat agree. Furthermore I always seem to root for underdog, and I doubt Alonso will keep his cool when his lead is vanishing. He's shown soem thnedency of screaming to radio and waving his hands when everything isn't going his way... I think it's a sign.

And I think McLaren should fight the number one for themselves with their own efforts.

You mean: "I prefer when my favorite driver is crowned at the end of the year", but non-fanboys believe: "among two or three equal drivers, the one with the best car and with the most support from his teammate is crowned at the end of the year". See how blind some people are? Alonso has not made one single mistake this year and Schumacher has stuffed it to the wall already once, when he was forced to push. Yet Schumi is going to win the championship.

Alonso went off in germany, luckely for him there was no wall there unlike in Melbourne.;)

Come on Michael made 1 mistake the whole year. Yes when the tyres werent working and he wanted to make up for it. If it wasnt for the famous bump there it wouldnt have been a problem.

But he has shown some very strong races as well.

Ok, fair enough. But this this doesn't mean he drove better than Alonso this year. It's easy to say that a driver is better because he drives the best car at a given time or a given year. Where was Schumi last year? Where is Kimi this year? Last year he drove extrordinary, yet he lost the championship. This year he works his ass off, but he doesn't shine. For me the best driver is the one who makes the least mistakes (most important, race ending mistakes) when forced to push. And you push when you don't have a massive car advantage, or a massive points deficit. In that regard, Kimi is at the top of my list, then Alonso, then Schumacher (at this age).

Exactly  The differences between MS, FA and KR are very small.

See how blind some people are? Alonso has not made one single mistake this year and Schumacher has stuffed it to the wall already once, when he was forced to push. Yet Schumi is going to win the championship.

FA has made some "smaller" mistakes. No stuffing it to the wall, though.

Spot on

That´s the point. It´s easy to look all-conquering with dominant car. MS was "head and shoulders above the rest" with super Ferrari in 2002 & 2004. In 2003 things got closer, and suddenly Schumi the perfect was spinning out and crashing on lap 1. 2005, relatively bad car and people asked him to retire. Last year, the only reason I voted KR marginally ahead of FA was the reason you pointed out: he was forced to push and still made few mistakes. 2006, no more fastest car and people are no longer sure if he is 10 times faster than FA and MS. This year people praised FA for being "head and shoulders above the rest". Well, he looked kinda flawless at first. But now he no longer has the best car and oops: trips to gravel trap, losing to his teammate, etc.

IMO these 3 drivers are roughly equal, and their relative strengths are measured by equipment. Whoever gets the best car, will get our praise for being the best driver. With that in mind, who deserves the WDC? To me both FA and MS have done great job, and both deserve it. If the world was fair, KR would have his chances as well. But in the end only one can win.

Alonso.

I don't like him that much if at all, but I think it's easier to hate Michael and Ferrari then it is Alonso and Renault. Although this year he has gotten cockier.

I don't really care either way. But after Monaco especially I'd rather see Alonso win. The lesser of two evils. :D Even though Alonso is the luckiest S.O.B. in F1 history.

Anyway, Schumacher is a shoe in for the 07 championship. By the time McLaren and Renault have adjusted to the new control tyre, he will already have a lead and will have riden off into the sunset. He will get his 100 wins.

And I think it's very unlikely that Alonso will hold on and win the championship this year. It would take a Michelin miracle. The momentum has been there since Nurburgring and there aren't enough races left for a big enough turn around imo. If Michael wins every race from here, it's his WDC.

No, I mean I do prefer when the best driver is crowned at the end of the year, like in 85, 86, 88, 91, 94, 95, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, for the last 20 years.
