Well, this could be themed 'Ugly teenager surrounded by campsite beauties'...

Here's a gallery of me aged nearly 13 visiting the 1981 Dutch GP, using the paddock pass that my Esso-employed father supplied. Zandvoort's cramped campsite atmosphere is clearly visible from the pictures.

John Medley, while going through the process of finding photographs for his Bathurst book (1938 to 1973) found that one of his sources had photos identical to a number of his.

Without knowing the guy, apparently they had stood side by side taking photos on a number of occasions!


While on the Bathurst subject, there is a great wealth of detail in this photo from 1949/50, sent to me by John Butler...

Right circuit, right date, right photographer... I'll leave the other one there as a tribute to a quiet country doctor who built his own racing cars in the thirties and forties... here's the pic I meant to post:



So now... why is the MG on the trailer? And what other detail of this pic do you think is worth mentioning? Lots of good period stuff in there...

If the shots are taken at a 1000K race, then it was either in 1958 or 1959. In both years, Moss drove for Aston Martin. Only thing that makes me uncertain, is that its obviously quite cold.. In both years the weather at the 1000K was fine, in 1959 even hot.
Another possibility:1960 (cold weather), and Moss visited the British camp, although he was driving for Maserati (Camoradi).

You would have loved the Wednesday night edition of the ABC2 broadcasts here last week...

The best F5000 race I saw (AIR International race, 1978) was on, followed by Alfie monstering the field in the T430 at Oran Park in 1979. Noise, movement, thunder, balls, it was all there.

Not that you can consider watching Bartlett and Walker side by side through the sweeper entering the straight at Phillip Island dull or uninteresting. As they fought to put the power down for a good run down the straight, each of them struggling for traction as the roostertails spun upward from their slicks.

Mallory be damned! Phillip Island was the place for F5000s...

I knew Peter fairly well from our numerous conversations and as he came from a rather uppercrusty upbringing, he really wouldn't wear something that didn't match the rest of the costume!!
