1980 Chevron B30 3400

The write up in both the 78 & 79 Programs discribes the car as ex Waring & Gillow car dispite the fact that it claims to have changed from the B32 to a B30.

In fact the exact same write up appears in both programs. Then dispite being one of the quickest local drivers nothing is written about him in either 80 or 81.

Very intruiging. If he had changed the way he entered the car, then surely he must have changed car. Thanks for this.

Anything obscure from 75/76 is always interesting. At Watkins Glen in 1975 the most interesting cars were Cannon's March 73A and Woodner's Talon MR1A. Unfortunately I don't have entry numbers for that race but Cannon was #9 elsewhere and Woodner was #91. At the 1976 Glen race were John Morton in the #11 Lance LSR1 (I have no photos at all of the Lance), Dick Messier in a mystery #36 "R. T. Auto Machine Special R. M. 3" that was probably a Chevron B24 or B28, Bob Dugo in a #57 "Dunkin Donuts Chinook LD1" that only appeared in practice and Brian Redman giving the #1A Lola T430 some rare practice laps. But any of your pictures would be a real treat because of their amazing quality.

Thanks Tom

It looks like Le Tissier ran the B32 in 1978 and then bought the B30 from Richard Jones for the next three seasons. The B32 appears to have gone to Tom Coughlam late in 1978 but then disappears from (my) view until Ken Ayers sprinted it in 1984.

Maybe Steve knows more. He usually does!

Did someone call?

Nice pics! That's the "T242" isn't it, the T300 prototype.

Boy that car was ugly! But purposeful.

These are two different Oulton meetings I think.

The prototype, at first called the T242 but then renamed T300, first appeared at Thruxton (R10) on 1 August 1971. It's third race was at the Oulton Park Gold Cup (R12 22 Aug 1971) which is I guess where Alan saw it, and then it was wrecked at Snetterton a week later.

The first production T300 (HU1) first appeared at Hockenheim (R14 12 Sep 1971) and then at Oulton Park a week later (R15 18 Sep 1971) where Stu saw it. It won both those races.

I don't have a picture of the T242/T300 on OldRacingCars.com (T300 page here) so, like Gerald, I'd love to use one of Alan's pictures if I could get a larger scan.

... but if these are two different cars, the livery is suspiciously similar. Any chance you guys were both at the same race?

Fantastic! Colour pictures from 1970 that look as crisp as if they were taken yesterday.

Wonderful stuff Alan. Can I use these too?

I assumed it was Sangster's car in '73 but I could be wrong. If it was 1972 it would have to be Rollinson and I'm pretty sure that's not his car. Good question - I'm not certain.

Hi Ian

Old programmes! Excellent.

Could you have a look to see if you have any of the F5000 or Atlantic ones we're looking for?

Full lists here

Thanks

That's Gethin in Bobby Brown's usual car, team-mate to Dean. And both cars wearing their rear bodywork which is most unusual.

Could the sportscar picture be Thruxton 30 Mar 1970? There was a sports car race and a F2 race that day. However, the #43 F2 car must be from 1971 - again maybe Thruxton 12 Apr 1971 where #43 was Jaussaud's March 712M?

I don't remember seeing an FA-converted 69 before (if that's what it actually is!).

It will be someone in this race, presumably Jacques Couture. Several 69Bs were built for Formula B.

Wonderful pictures, aren't they!

Hello Henk! Great picture of the Kitchiner.

Do you have more from that race (Zandvoort 19 Apr 1970)? And do you have the race programme? I am trying to get hold of scans of entry lists for all the F5000 races and the 1970 Zandvoort race is still outstanding.

That's excellent Henk. I'm always looking for photos of F5000s (colour ideally) and for the entry lists from the overseas F5000 races - Anderstorp (1970), Hockenheim (1969, 1970, 1971), Koksijde (1969), Misano (1973), Mondello Park (1969, 1970, 1971, 1973), Monza (1970, 1971, 1974), Mugello (1974), Nivelles-Baulers (1972), Salzburgring (1970), Zandvoort (1969, 1970, Jul 1973, Sep 1973, 1975) and Zolder (1970, 1975).

Thanks

That car didn't have much of a career. Used in practice in South Africa and then wrecked in practice at Brands.

It's definitely a 1976 spec car. I wondered if it could be the T-car that the team brought along in 1977 but that was P34/6, a new car. The nose is definitely 1976, as is the rear wing, so I'm confident that this is P34/2, Depailler's Monaco 76 car.

And as I was taking pics on the track that year, I could not miss the Alfas in the paddocks either...

This car finished second in class in 1984, and is little documented with its odd "Dismero" white-and-blue livery. It raced again with race #42 the next year.

Bobby Brown is an extremely fit 66-year old who looks the same as he did 30 years ago. Last year he also raced a mint BT-36 too. The year before he raced the March 79B. The Ralt is very quick and well turned out racer too. I don't think he ever stopped racing. He runs about 10-15 Historic races a year.

Any particular reason why Jody ran number "0"? Secondly, was Roger Penske half kidding or just being a butthead when he call the Trojan a hunk of junk? Regardless, I find his comment extremely arrogant and a bit of a purse swing.

Alan Cox:

The paint scheme on Teo Fabi car was sand blasted by debris on the track. For example we did "an exhibition" run at the USGP with HGP the 2nd year they had it at Indy. Bernie didn't provide the normal sweeping service he provided every other group! He wanted to discourage us because he felt we were a distraction to HIS show, the fans loved the old cars...and all the working mechanics dropped their tools and ran over to the pit wall to get a better look and a better smell.

Well after only a few laps all of our cars looked like that. I think it cost Jim Busby something like $1,400 in painting costs. I got off lighter! It was like driving in a sand storm in the Sahara...

Just another reason for me to bad mouth the little jerk...

It's Giulio Borsari in the fuel-injected Ferrari 156/63 at Silverstone in 1963. Taken from the original 2 and a quarter inch square negative, remember those??
