'Brabham BT36-1, leased for the first two races in 1972 by Graham Hill.'
Which was the other race?? It wasn't, by any chance, Crystal Palace, was it?

These are just brilliant photos, the grid shot particularly sums up the atmosphere of early 60's racing. Brilliant stuff.

I've had a look at the entry list for that race, and if we assume it was a Brabham driver (Jack doing a bit of "customer care") and counting out obvious candidates such as Rindt, Gardner, Rees, Raby etc, we are left with Robin Widdows (I confess I haven't got a clue what he looks like), Paul Blum, Bruno Frey and Gerhard Krammer. So who was it?

Not Widdows, anyone have photos of the others?

Unfortunately, it's only a picture, you can't hear the DFV gently idling at 2500rpm...

Thanks for posting those pics Henk. I've always had a soft spot for that era of F1 cars. They may not have been the prettiest, but I always think they looked the fastest - if that makes sense.

My little googling attempt brought up this interesting page It seems your thoughts on the first 3 letters were on the mark.

Yeh, certainly doesn't look like a 411.

There also appears to be a different frontal treatment and different rear wing(s) in the images at http://www.racing70s...erman/vw411.htm than the example in swintex's pic. Guess it went through a few changes in its lifetime.

Great idea.
I do have a few prints and some more slides (1977-1980), which are difficult to scan right now. I must have a picture of an oversteering Porsche 934 in Tarzan corner somewhere...

I'll try and move this thread a little away from F1.

A Lola T492 Sports 2000 from 1979:

and a picture from UNDER the paddock (a first, I believe):

This picture was made on saturday night between practice and race on a European circuit. It rained, and instead of staying in our tent the whole evening me and my pal decided to move to the tunnel under the circuit. It had some light and was dry. We brought a few beers and our favourite racing-car related game and had a nice time.
Anyone out there who knows which circuit this was?

Stuck and ?... Manfred Winkelhock ?

Rob

It's Winkelhock allright, but I'm puzzled by the venue - Stuck never won a DRM race at Zandvoort, and Zolder 1978-1980 does not fit the bill either. Could be an F2 race too, but I'm not sure whether Stuck and Winkelhock ever raced F2 in the same race...

Is that an ATS decal on Stuck's suit? Then it should be 1977 or 1979.

Didn't think about procar, but your guess must be right - Zandvoort 1979: 1. Stuck 3. Winkelhock.

My 2 cents: it looks like the first version of the DN8, which only had its debut at Zandvoort, so after the German and Austrian GP.
It has no starting numbers so perhaps this is the shakedown of the new car.

it look that it open the eyes of the march people cause the 732 was of the same school so as all the f2 until 79 , but to be honest chevron and surtees were already of the bulknose school in 72
