Two weeks before the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen, NY, I was painting a logo on the front straight wall. It was abot 7 pm and I was the only person at the track, except for the security guard who was waiting for me to finish, at the Main Gate. I noticed him making a couple of laps on the track. He stoped and asked me if I had a minute to talk to someone. I said, "who is it?" He said, "he told me his name, but I've never heard of him". In short, it was Bruno Giacomelli.
I would like to send him this story the local paper did on his surprise visit to Watkins Glen. He won the Pole here in 1980.
This is my first post as I just discovered this forum! It is GREAT!!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hope this link works!

That lovely story was actually reproduced & posted here:

As you live in the USA, I wouldn't bother with Autosport, I doubt they'd give a **** anyway.

Bruno Giacomelli lives in Roncadelle, Italy.

There's a company there that have the same name.I don't know that it's Bruno's, but I guess you can always ask or try if nothing else comes up.

It's funny you posted. I just read that article a few weeks ago, and thought it was pretty cool.

Richie: Are you sure he lives in Roncadelle, Italy? I found something with the city being Breno, which is in Brescia (BS).

Well, I don't know for sure. He certainly DID live in Roncadelle at some point within the last 10 years.

What a fantastic story!

I recall distinctly that chilly October weekend at the Glen in 1980, as it was the first F1 race I ever saw in person, leading to more than a quarter century's subsequent unhealthy obsession.

My father had purchased pit roof seats that had us literally on top of the Renault pit for Arnoux, and I remember how thrilled we were with Bruno's unexpected pole with the Alfa.

I still have that pit pass hanging on the wall...

Thanks again for the link.

Hi the famous.
As I said in other threads Bruno was often a special guest of the TV motors talk show "Griglia di Partenza" (every thursday at 9 PM CET on the Milan catholic TV Telenova). His appearence was delicious as he completely disapperared in the last few years. They will have his contact for sure and I believe that they would be glad to pass him this article.
This is their website: http://www.grigliadi...a.com/index.asp
