I've been an avid spectator at Oulton for almost 50 years & really should know the answer to this question but I don't.

How did Knicker Brook get it's name, can someone please tell me?

I believe it's revealed in Blaster Bates's 1967 Record 'The Naming of Knicker Brook' but as I haven't got a copy I don't know the answer.

Blaster Bates was called in to Oulton Park to remove some tree stumps - Blaster's method was a stick of dynamite placed under the offending stump then boom up she goes.

At this particular time the venue was still a displaced person's camp full of refugees.

Blaster duly, having set the charge, lit the fuse and retired. Immediately after the big bang a courting couple emerged from some bushes adjacent to the nearby stream and in her hurry to get away the young lady dropped her knickers.

Several years later when the circuit was being set up the Circuit Manager again called in Blaster for some demolition work. During a chat in the office they got onto details of the circuit and the still un-named corner. It was at this point that Blaster related the story and the name Knickerbrook became part of Motor Racing legend!

Oh dear - another of my favourite people gone. I only saw him in person once, sadly. He kept a full house at the Colston Hall in Bristol (a venue which holds several thousand) in absolute stitches all night with just his brilliant stories and a few explosive tricks.

As Pete said in the other thread, time to dig out the records. RIP, Blaster.
