So anyone bought that? I bought it one week ago and it's amazing. I has a great driving feeling and and fantastic physics engine. Any opinions?

Haven't yet bought. One question: are the config files encoded like in GTR?

If they are, I will not buy it. Simply because there will hardly be any mods later on.

To those who have it - is it different enough from GTR to warrant buying? I know the graphics have been improved, and there's now a driving school. But that isn't enough reason for me to buy it when it's essentially the same cars and tracks as before. I read an article with the developers in which they raved on about a 'new tyre model', without saying what this did to the game physics.

Has the 'new tyre model' made the game harder, easier, or just different? Is it just another tweak of the old F1 series engine, or an entirely new engine?

Rich,

the game is completely differrent animal right now due to this tyre model.

In few words, as I have full version only for two days, but I drove demo on many tracks...

The cars are much, much more contrable, esopecially at least untill they reach 99% of the limit.

I am late now... I will continue this tomorrow. Sorry

Thanks. :)

I don't really have any problems with the difficulty curve of GTR. I'm still on the lesser powerful beasts like the BMWs and smaller Porsches, and have left the Saleen and other monsters for when I'm more proficient at controlling them. However, if they choose to make it easier to control all cars, that's OK too.

To continue on my yesterday's post...

The cars are having a lot of grip. I am having problems throwing them off the track for reasons other than understeering. I guess part of the reason is default setups that are not than quick but stable. I am sure 'on the edge' setups will eliminate that 'feeling'

The game have bugs: Yesterday I tried Spa 24h and my AI co-driver was driving slower than my mother ;) , being passed in 550 by NGT cars, taking Eau Rouge in third gear :

thx for the heads up

I tried the demo & found the cars not nearly as fun to drive as the GTL cars

but I like the old cars better ;)

I will probably pick up GTR2 anyway

The main issue with GTR was the low speed grip which was at best erratic.

This was a real pain as some laps you thought you could rely on the car and then all of a sudden you had nothing with not warning. I feel it may have been in connection with tire wear as well, but however it was accounted for it wasn't linear and low speed grip was all wrong to boot.

I have only driven the demo, it feels much better, the cars are easier to drive out of the corners but, with all the aids off you can still very easily end in the wall. So just on my initial look I would say it will make a much better online experience. From all my mates in our online league they have commented that the AI is very very good, so racing should be fun on and off line.

If you like GTR I think GTR2 will be well worth it, its a pretty cheap game anyway. Jeez if you have broadband download the demo its only half a gig.

Drove a bit more this weekend and I have to say that game is great... It's really not that easy to make the times that AI are doing on top difficulty levels. And if you choose longer races... the tyres are becoming a tricky...

I am in middle of 3 hours Monza race... I had to save the game in first pitstop after 27 laps, I was exhausted  I am in P5 driving F575 and keeping pace with AI really requires a lot concentration.

Shame I am so busy at work these days, I would love to drive much more...

A must buy.

Just "got" the game today, and it is great! I'm too cheap to buy a wheel for this game, so I opted for the xbox360 controller which is great IMO. Definately a challenging game! Look forward to wasting hours on this game! ;)

It's definately challenging! I can't make a direct comparison to GTR cause I never played it, but this game is very impressive IMO. The sense of speed and g-forces is very well made, and the bouncines can be very intenze around Monza for example!

1:47.7 around Monza, and that makes me the slowest GT class runner. No TC, ABS and other helpers besides the balance thingy and brake markers, and auto pit.

You guys think this game will get mods?

Well it is, in itself, a mod of F1-2002. I think modders might be more inclined to continue modding F1-2002 than GTR/GTR2. There will probably be some extra cars and tracks made, which is fine. I installed the Nissan, TVR, Maserati and BMW cars made for GTR, and they were all excellent. It's a pity the Aston Martin car was never finished, that looked really promising.

I tend to avoid full mods, though. I spent ages downloading some sports car mod for F1-2002, and was a bit underwhelmed when I loaded it up.

Simbin their very popular GT-2002 mod was a mod of this game yes. GTR, GTL and GTR2 can't be called mods just because they make use of the ISI engine, too much has been changed. Even R-factor by ISI themselves doesn't have a rain system in place for instance.

Anyway. Mods can be hella fun like the ETCC mod for F1C, just don't expect them to be as polished as a standalone gametitle (some do come very close). GTR2 is already being modded, there's quite a lot of tracks available already, good fun :)

I just bought the game a couple of days ago, and overall I think it's pretty cool. It doesn't seem quite as realistic as the original GTR, however. It's seems a bit too easy and arcade like to me.

That might be because I've been playing GPL for the last couple of weeks, which is still the most realistic sim around IMHO.

Did you change to the AI driver during your pitstop on your pitboard or just press the 'i' button to give AI control? They are very different animals. The AI gives you a slow, generic AI driver whilst switching drivers utilitises the actual AI files from that driver - so pick a car with a strong co-driver and you'll do quite well. :)

I have finally realized that myself, but thanks for help
