ING has confirmed that it will become Renault's title sponsor for 2007-09.

That could make for a much better-looking, predominantly white, Renault next year; rather than the blue & yellow mish-mash of past years.

Unless they make it all orange, of course - let's hope not.

I don't know about the "other" colour, but i don't see Renault dropping their "traditional" yellow....

I really wonder what the new cars will look like. Indeed, Renault's traditional colours are yellow and grey, but they used Mild Seven's two-shade blue, too. ING uses a lot of white, plus orange and a bit of dark blue. Could make a nice combination, that.

ING should be sponsoring Spyker.

Maca will display Vodafone.

What about Honda? No replacement at sight for Lucky Strike?

What about Williams? Another year w/ blank sidepods? Philips?

60 million dollars per year says Helsingin Sanomat.

4 days ago TS said that deal is supposedly 20% more lucrative than previous cancer selling company.

What the? I think the blue/yellow livery is one of, if not the best, liveries on the grid right now.

It's very appealing to the eye, and is very vibrant.

On the Spyker thing: Are you sure it shouldn't be Ferrari they sponsor. Or do they already? Aren't they known as "ing Ferrari"? My little joke there (for those that need them spelt out).

On the cancer thing: I thought that was 'extra free', but surely debt is just debt. It'll be an interesting car launch season again tho, even seeing what Ferrari come up with while they maintain Marlboro.

Fuller is Alonso! Really not helpful to Honda then!

Seriously tho, I haven't noticed anyy difference. You'd think they'd be well placed to copy the BMW experience thing, and even an XFactor EJ eejit racers or DC EI panel show, or Rubens singing to Honda engine accompaniement, or something. I fully expected them to land Coke or Pepsi actually with either the Coke red circle replacing the Lucky Strike/Rising Sun, or the blue/red pepsi one doing similar. Do we know their new title sponsor?

(I may be hijacking this thread talking about these other title sponsors, but it seems the relevant place for it at the mo, perhaps we should have another thread tho? I'll be sure to if the conversation continues and there are objections)

From my visits to ING branches in the US, I recall them being pretty heavy on the orange...

4 orange cars would be a disaster, and if McLaren go red it'll be even worse. Simply because James Allen's eyesight will drive everyone mad.

ING would not sponsor Ferrari, Honda or Spyker. They have a very specific brandimage. A little bit classy, but also family minded.

I think the sponsoring of Renault will also include special arrangements for leasing Renaults via ING, or car financing, stuff like that.

Renault and ING, in my mind it melts together quite well...

I think it was quite simple.
Renault is currently THE top team that had TITLE sponshorship available for their outfit.

Ferrar, Honda, Spyker etc. were not relevant, given the above.

Jeez, the Dutchies are taking over. ING for Renault, rumours that ABN Amro might take a punt on someone like Honda, Spyker buying MF1...

And still Jos can't get a drive.

Nobody actually suggested Honda or Ferrari should have it guys. The spyker thing is only because of the dutch connection, but renault is clearly the best choice even so. And as long as they do better than the mastercard fiasco, which is impossible not to, all will be well.

Sorry?
The Renault is beautiful to look at, have not heard anyone else call it a mish-mash.

My guess is the 2007 car will be Yellow and ING blue.....

The Renaults of the past few years were the best looking cars on the grid and the only car I bought a model of. I hope it stays similar.

About ING sponsoring Renault because they are big at the moment, I don't think that is true.

I fear that Renault will not win GP's next year, but I think (strangely enough) that ING is one of the few sponsors to be that care less about sponsoring a winning team, than sponsoring a team with the right corporate image. Ferrari, Spyker and even Toyota and McLaren do not have the image that ING wants people to identify them with.

Whatever happens, i sure hope they do not choose orange...

Can you imagine ? (i'm sure you can ;) ) :

Renault: Orange
Ferrari: Orange Red (It needs to be slightly "oranged" to look red on TV)
Mclaren: Orange Red (idem)
Spyker: Orange

...8 orange cars on the grid......... :drunk:

Ehmm... I think white livery, with touches of blue and orange... a bit like this picture

http://img.photobuck...o/ING_Volvo.jpg

If the car will be orange it will be a orangy shadow, instead of a full colour orange. White and blue are very 'ING'

Why are people even linking them to Ferrari.

It's very obvious why they didnt go for Ferrari.. Ferrari already has a mainsponsor towards 2011 namely Marlboro. That's also the reason why Vodafone left.

I disagree with about everything you've just said there.

Renault WILL win a race next year.

Sponsors are VERY careful about who they go for to get maximum return.

ING does not have a family image to me. Yes they do have regular branches everywhere in Holland but internationally (the market they would go for, advertising their logo in F1) they are much more investment banking and real estate.

Oh, and please god keep Jos away from F1, no make that any racing, he does not deserve another chance.

Hi Bumper

I am not saying ING is strictly a family bank. I used to work for them, when I was a student, my father has worked for them for twenty years, not as a tophat, but at a pretty important position.

The whole filosophy of the bank is rather 'soft' compared with other banks. For instance, I believe several keyfigures of the bank are or were followers of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of the Anthroposophical movement (see for instance their former headoffice designed by Ton Albers at)

http://www.amsterdam...zuidoostgr1.jpg

Their new building is even more ambitious and extravagant

http://www.aero-dyna...hermografie.htm (second picture on the page)

ING is a bank with a very 'earthy' image, not a typical corporate image. Business yes, but business in a human sense (at least thats what they want us to believe, maybe its sincere).

Renault will fit in nicely. And oh btw the way I HOPE Renault is going to win some GP's next year, I just don't think they will.

Jerome, just take my post as a rant in general, loooong day at work (involving a banking issue funnily enough).

Suffice to say I'd rather bank with ING than ABN Amro, the bank our company banks with here in London, totally useless. Their London telephone number automatically redirects to some Amsterdam call centre, who don't have a clue about our English account details here in London, so they then have to 'log my question' and get some ABN guy from the London office (which I can't call directly as they redirect automatically) to call me back a whole day day later. When the London branch of ABN is literally 150 yards away from us across the road here in the financial City. Very professional. Not. But I'm digressing.

Good for Renault for getting ING to sign on the dotted line, and an orange-white-blue livery would look quite handsome I think.

And yes barman, I will have that double straight vodka right now thanks :drunk:

Orange and blue with Renault yellow in there somewhere.

Maybe Renault yellow, ING blue with orange highlights. A large amount of orange would be a bad idea given the amnount of orange on other cars already as mentioned.

It's funny how the image of F1 changed. Ten years ago, nor ING or ABN nor any Dutch company that big would have sponsored F1. F1 was like... the tattoo of twenty years ago. Exciting, but shady. Now every other guy or girl has a tattoo... and Dutch companies are flocking into F1.

The time they are a changing... but not so much... I can't see ING sponsor a F1 team that does not make family cars...

I hope that ING's input is substantial enough to have an influence on the drivers within the team as well, just to see Briatore's conflict of interest as director of a management agency for F1 drivers and director of an F1 team being reduced...

I for one hope Renault experiences a lot more success than the Volvo Ocean Race entries sponsored by ING.

OT, the orange/blue/white livery sounds very similair to the Dutch ice-skaters. IMO that is not a very good look. The current livery of Renault yellow and Mild Seven blue is the best on the grid and it is a shame that it is history after Interlagos

It was a disaster due to a combination of bad luck, poor funding and not enough training together. They ended up changing sponsors mid-way and skipped a number of stages. Sad, but I think the 05/06 race was very accident prone due to new keel designs, new class etc.

There was something eery about Honda's decision to pull out of F1... My guess (though I hope I'm wrong) was that the fast times of the Honda were because the car just was underweight. The Honda people knew this, and the death of the designer was 'an easy way' out...

But this pure guesswork.
