I was so pleased that Seppi won at Brands in 1968, a great drive, he never put a foot wrong, although it is fair to say he benefitted from the demise of both Jackie Oliver and Graham Hill, he was so good in sports cars though, 908's and 917's were just made for him.I treasure having seen Pedro when he drove the 917 at Brands that day............amazing, he got admonished by Nick Syrett in the pits.........He always drove his heart out whatever the car.......I was not there but reading the report of the Spa Franchorchamps 1000km, the picture of the 1st lap with Pedro and Seppi trading fibreglass..............at the beginning of the race........if only you could bottle what those two had!

Sad irony was Seppi lost his life at the scene of his win just 3years later

I grew up in the Channel Islands, so didn't manage to get to a Formula 1 race until I was 20. The 1971 Brands Victory Race was my first, and one of my favourite drivers was on pole, in the glorious-looking BRM P160. As we know, he made a poor start, but was fighting back from 5th position. This was what I had wanted to see 'in the flesh' for years; this was going to be a tremendous race; Jo was going to come through and win - and then . . .

RIP Jo - never to be forgotten.

Are those your own paintings Lole? They're great. I'm too young to have witnessed Seppi race but recently got the 'Live Fast, Die Young' DVD, a wonderful film about a wonderful man. I would loved to have seen him in the 917.

Yes KEVTHEDRUMMER, these are indeed my own paintings...
It is my way to pay tribute to all those great drivers who lost their life while doing what they loved most and who will live forever in the mind and heart of millions of fans all over the world...
I read in your profile that you're an admirer of Gilles, François and Ayrton. Well I hope you'll like these too...

Thanks for those! The Cevert one is fantastic. In fact, they're all great. I had a look at your site. The Fangio portrait looks like a photograph! Quite brilliant. Do you sell them?

Thanks for your kind reply Kevin (?).
I don't sell my original paintings but I have limited edition prints of the Ayrton Senna painting (with helmet), gilles Villeneuve in the cockpit of his Ferrari 126 CK and the "Brothers in Arms" (Pedro and Seppi).

One of my early memories of racing was at the British GP meeting in 1971 (my first ever GP, thanks, Dad!) where there was a demonstration of one of the Gulf 917's. Does anyone know who drove the car that day ... was it Seppi? My fading memory recalls that the car ran lap times that would have put it mid-grid for that day's GP, but that may be fantasy?
I remember standing by Hangar Straight and being awed by the majesty of the car ... sadly, I didn't ever see full grids of them race in anger :(

Dave, Derek Bell drove that 917, as a tribute to Pedro. IIRC, He was halted by a flat tire.

Thanks, Pedro! I had a feeling that it might have been Bell, but I hoped it was Seppi  , and of course was very sad that it could not have been Pedro  . Now you mention it, I also remember the tire thing - he only did 4 or 5 laps, I think. My recollection is of lap times in the 1'23" region ... since Regga's pole was 1'18.1 and JYS's race fastest lap was 1' 19.9, it seems feasible?
Amazingly, from the published race time, Wee Jackie's average lap time for all 68 laps comes out to 1'20.7, so he was clicking off laps with that legendary consistency ...

I was priveleged to be there ...

Has anybody seen the film about Seppi? I´ve heard from some Swiss friends that it´s rather good - haven´t seen it myself, though.

It is quite superb. It comes as a two disc set. The first has the documentary film on it while the second contains some rare footage and interviews. Although it is subtitled I hardly noticed. Well worth the money

Great model....I just know I am going to put my foot in now......P160 from memory? It looks great in the Yardley colours, the Yardley "girls" were always...shall we say, easy on the eyes at the meetings they attended.

Did you start with a proprietary model or build from scratch?

The model - the whole set up - is fantastic!! Mind-boggling! To be hyper critical...weren't the white stripes on Siffert's helmet a little wider?

What a beautiful car !
java script:smilie('')
eek!
I never understood why this car has never been made as a large scale model 1/12 or 1/20 by TAMIYA or 1/43 by Mjava script:smilie('')
EvilINICHAMPS considering they made other, less known models which only drove once or just as a test car…

Does anyone knows the reason why?

Hello,

thanks for all these nice replays. Lole, this is exact the reason because I must built this model as a
complete scratch, Tamyia, Revell and all other manufacturers are not able to offer such a model,
the only model I know is from Scale Racing in 1/43th. Ralliart, it is true the stripes on the helmet could be
a little wider, but I have forgot to use my glases and the spray can with white color was empty, sorry!!!!.
Enclosed some more photos.

John-w

I have just finished a Motul BRM P201 in 1/20th scale I will be posting some pictures when it stops raining!!!! long enough to take the pictures!!

Seppi's first try at a world championship GP...Monaco, 1962. He didn't qualify in the Lotus 21-Climax 938. He apparently had run in the non-championship Pau event earlier in the year.

While in Fribourg for a small (and cold) holiday I of course had my eyes open. This is the town of Siffert. Although I did buy the Heuvink book, I went unprepared to Switzerland and did not go to the museum Philippe Siffert has set up. However I did run into some locations where Siffert is also remembered. At the spot where the old garage was (see other thread on its demolishment) a new building with shops has been erected, including a shopping centre. It is not far from the Station and while passing through it you arrive at the Esplanade Siffert. Below this all is a large underground garage where you will find yourself when you steer to the city and station.

Posted Image
By arjanuh at 2012-02-15

Opposite to this new building is the Fontaine Siffert. It was designed and made by fellow Fribourg citizen and friend, the late, great artist Jean Tinguelly. This is how it looks like at -20 degC:

Posted Image
By arjanuh at 2012-02-15

A 5 minute walk down hill to the old city centre finds you the museum for Tinguelly and his wife Nike de Saint Phalle. Next to the art works that can be set in motion by each observer, the museum also has some small studies made by Tinguelly for the fountain. One is given as a reporduction to each visitor. In the shop I found a 30 minute video by MediaAB mostly with footage of the Lotus 49 days with Rob Walker.
