Hi there,

I am looking for photographs of the Ferrari GTO that belonged to David Piper (3767 GT). I am particularly interested in photographs of the car when it was painted in "BP Green". If they are colour, even better....

Many thanks in advance!

Joe
"Ferrari 250GTO" by Keith Bluemel and Jess Pourret (Bay View Books 1998) has several pictures of the car including two in colour.
Good hunting. Robert

Thank you for these photos, they are perfect, any more would be much apreciated. I think I will speak to Pipes for a paint code, I believe BP have changed their green since the 60's!!

This is serial numer 4491GT, like 3767GT, once owned by David Piper.

"Motor Racing Team Colours" says Piper used a special ICI mix just known as BP Green. Closest is British Standard Colour 228 Emerald Green.

I think I read somewhere that Piper's green was a Ford (presumably UK) colour 'Modena Green'. Or was that the brighter green he used later?

I asked David Pipers mechanics once at a historic racing meeting at Zandvoort. They told me: BP green is the color.

On the subject of green GTOs.....

I recently bought this nice little model of a dark green 250 GTO. The number is not relevant, but can anyone tell me if such a car, in such a colour, was EVER raced?

If not, it's going straight onto Ebay!

I do know it is not a Piper car - I've already got one of they.

Peter Sutcliffe raced a dark green GTO, the ex Piper low roof line car 4491GT. This car started out BP Green, and as I have made quite a few models of it, would go along with 'Ford Modena Green' as a good colour match for Piper's cars. I think the films colour cast in the two yellow noseband photo's is a fair way off the real thing. In Sutcliffes colours it was a 'traditional' BRG.

Excellent. Thanks, SW.

Now I need a specific race and a specific number. :)

If there was another dark green GTO I can't find it, but the Sutcliffe did win the GT class as #33 at the Spa 500km in '65. Given your model hasn't got a low line roof, or a roof bulge over the drivers head, and is left and not right hand drive, this could be deemed close enough for the model company.....oh, and it had red wheels...... :)
