Anyone know who this is and is it the old Brabham factory in Chessington, I was sent it by the Brabham supporters club Cobra.

I'm pretty sure it's not their Chessington base which became Yamaha's.

Certainly isn't the Cox Lane, Chessington base, that's for sure.

For what it's worth, I drove past there today and noticed it's now the home of the FIA Technical Commission; oddly surrounded by spiked fences...

Candy, are Cobra still going? If so could you give me contact details as I used to be a member years ago and thought they had folded.

One of the things I'm pleased I own is an unused Cobra transfer from the Brabham factory, (one advantage of working at FOM with so many ex Brabham folk!!!) and a "World Championship" sticker. Just want the car to put it on!

Anyway it isn't Chessington, and certainly not Addlestone, so is it the building that Activa took over??

Wow, glad to see some others remember Cobra as fondly as I!

I grew up in Eastcote in the same street as Mik Hard and just round the corner from the other the Cobra Magazine chaps, and still have my Cobra Hoody top from the 80s!!! Don't think it fits any more!
I was a couple of years younger than them, and they raided my collection of Tiger comics to photocopy the Skid Solo cartoon strip, turning it into "Skid Mark" which was superb.

I am still in touch with the Cobra people, Martin Read, Keith Tonge, Mik Hard etc...the magazine did end some time ago sadly. I still havea few copies from the late 80s, 88/89.

Martin told me that it was Sennas demise and a lack of money that put an end to it.

Here is a link I found recently to an article written quite some time ago by Joe Saward.
The Ferrari Wheel of Fortune!! hahahaha!

I was an occasional contributor to Cobra & still have the tee-shirt!

I also have several of the mags squirrelled away.

Awesome!

I don't suppose your Cobras are easily photcopyable? :)

Mine are! I'd happily post a few over to you in return for a few copies of yours!
(I can only find about 5 issues that i still have, but they are superb...)

I'll try to dig them out and send you a PM or email with the issues I have. Then if there are any that you are missing I can either Photocopy them or Scan them for you.

Oh and I never did participate in one of the kart thrashes - living Up North it was too far to go to get black & blue!

Steve, that would be absolutely marvellous, you made my day!

I'll dig mine out too and will have a photocopy session next week.

What sort of stuff did you contribute to Cobra then?

Thanks!!!

Hey, glad to see there's one or two others around here who remember good ol' Hissing Sid!

I also wrote several things for Cobra in its latter days, starting with an absolute slagging of the Phoenix GP I went to in '90 - great race, shite venue! Also went to several of the kart thrashes - iirc I even managed to knock a wheel off one of the karts at the first one. If you remember a hairy creature in cut-offs, that'll be me

Being the anal collector type, I still have all my old Cobras - every one from #22 on except 26 and 33 - and the T-shirt (still fits but getting a bit thin). Then again, I've also still got my old Minardi and Fondmetal fan mags as well... No easy access to a photocopier alas, but I'm sure something can be worked out ;)

Jenkins, could you say 'Hi' to Martin for me next time you speak - we used to have long phone chats while the mag was running, but when it folded I lost contact...

I am glad I wrote this now, enticing old Cobra fans out the woodwork!

It would be awesome to get hold of any other copies, mine are around the Issue 39-43 range.
Some further correspondence will be forthcoming methinks. :)

A hairy creature in cut offs....hmm....my memory is a little foggy...I was 16 at the time of the Kart Thrash in 1988, I was the tall thin one (not that thin any more) in the Cobra hoody!! Your name isn't Marco is it? I remember how cool it was as they played "The Chain" when the drivers came out for the final!!! Bring back that music for F1 I say.

I've sent Martin a link to this thread so hopefully you'll be able to say hello your self, otherwise I'll pass this message on.

Toodle Pip!!

Nope, not Marco, I'm a Dave :) and there were more than a few Cobra hoodies about on those days so apologies for not remembering you.

Actually, the tune I recall from those events is Yello's 'The Race' - the track seemed to have it on endless repeat. Mind you, there were 30-odd races to get through...
