Apparently David Coulthard has been found guilty of accidental injury after crashing a Mercedes road car in the tunnel at Monaco, slightly injuring his female passenger while travelling between "100- 150 kph ". In April 1999! Has anyone heard about this before now? Has anyone in the F1 press world heard about this before now? I'm guessing they probably have but decided not to report on it. Shame on all of them. News like this helps people like us make decisions on our opinions, rightly or wrongly. It is the job of the press corps to report stuff like this and not hide things because they might be embarrassing. This makes me wonder what other nuggets of information they might be sitting on. And, just for the record, Coulthard is one of the drivers I cheer for.

I hope you have done a search on the internet and found nothing before you contemplated making accusations.

Coulthard crashed his plane which killed his pilots in 2000. Has this not been reported either?

The plane was a Lear Jet 35 model, and it was not his normal plane or pilots.

The main pilot who was almost 50 years old had a record for being temperamental under stress, and had to have high level of pilot with him. He did have, the co-pilot had an excellant record but he did not fly the plane. He was 33 years old I think. I think they argued coming in.

The accident happened due mainly to an engine problem, so the plane came in with one engine. The pilot got too low and he increased speed, with the one engine. With one engine there are yaw issues as the engine pushes the nose toward the non operating engine side. By trying to keep the plane straight, the plane rolls, and if low the wing tip then hits the tarmac, which is what happened. The pilot should have bailed out and gone around again.

Both crew died, DC got his girlfriend out of the broken fuselage, and when everyone was out he went back to try to get the pilots out, but he could not before the firecrew arrived. And engine had caught fire as well.

I don't think DC raced that weekend ...

I was going to make paparazzi jokes about tunnels, but since the air crash accussation, I've gotten serious again.

If I remember correctly, he concealed having a broken rib as well in order to race.

He crashed with his plane, which apparently? wasnt his plane after all. What do you think there pilots were the in for? Coulthard wouldnt have survived if he was in the cockpit.

You must have made a typo, because it seems you did not mean to criticize him, but your statement said that "Coultard crashed his plane", which is quite incorrect, I'm sure you would agree.

And yes, the crash was reported at the time, world wide, with photographs even in Melbourne Australia newspapers.

Well ... they call them newspapers.

One of them in Melbourne, the Age, is a world class newspaper. I am not sure about the other state's newspapers quality.

And young Rupert Murdoch learn't his craft in newspapers in Australia, and he expanded by going to the UK, the US and the world. The Age is not a Murdoch paper. I think he's too interventionist, but he's been successful.

 I'd bet that Australia actually has one of the highest rates of cell phone ownerships in the world. I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have one.

I remember, when I was in uni taking a class in 2001 or so, we had an American lecturer (visiting from a US univeristy) who couldn't get over how "everyone has a cell phone" here.

The rest are either tabloids, with Kylie Minogue finding her way onto the front page :| , or worse absolute rubbish trite elitish millionaire business bullshit. They seem to be below SBS world news quality... honestly how hard is to grab a large proportion of your words from global feeds (be they print or video news) and then simply put the most important stories at the front of the paper, and put the trivial crap in small stories buried deep in the paper. The continual very limited and restricted coverage of major world news and events is very poor  .

lol. Not a ****ing chance.

(Quite why anybody would want to assume their life has just been put in danger by a pretend-friend is beyond me....I guess if things like crash reports, and proper investigations into what happened are something you think are unnecessary and irrelevant, then "ah, it must be god" might make sense...and what a nice god for wanting to try and kill me in the first place! Oh..I see, god was only doing the "saving me" bit, not the "nearly killing me bit"....riiiiiight.).

Well we each have our skills ... but on sportsmen who are religious and open about it, Aussie Aaron Baddeley spoke up about his faith after he just won a PGA tour event in the USA, the FBR Open in Scottsdale. Interestingly, his father was the head of Mario Andretti's pit crew. But Aaron was not keen on driving. And just as well, he's six foot 2 inches tall. He's a very good putter.

I have tried a search on this website and found nothing. Perhaps I am doing it wrong. Type in " 1999 coulthard road accident/monaco" and see what you find.

Well, I got 283,000 results on Google for "Coulthard crash".

How many of these were pit-entry related I cannot say ... :)

So I'm a bit confused - are you saying that if you knew this back in 1999 it would affect your support for David?

And who really cares if this wasn't mentioned back in the day...apart from the fact that Monaco takes their sweet ass time in judicial matters - this is history, in the past, time to move on.

It also mentioned it being a passenger ... it sounds like maybe an ex girlfriend, or an "aquaintance", with an action based upon an insurance claim. Maybe she sued on the basis of a stiff neck or something like that. Or even she was unhappy about how that "date" went ...

they aren't dwelling on it at all - they reported that he got a fine - cause it just went to Court
