Anyone bet on F1? I was thinking of having a flutter. Seems the Ladbrokes guys are fairly wise- they know Kovy is more likely for title than Fisi having never raced.

Given recent form and comments BMW could be worth a couple of quid for the constructors if the car is as impressive as it sounds. Good odds on RK and NH too. Again Ladbrokes favour the rookie.

Ladbrokes current odds on WDC:

K Raikkonen 6/4
F Alonso 2/1
F Massa 9/2
J Button 10/1
H Kovalainen 14/1
G Fisichella 16/1
L Hamilton 20/1
R Barrichello 33/1
J Trulli 50/1
R Kubica 50/1
R Schumacher 50/1
N Heidfeld 66/1
A Wurz 100/1
D Coulthard 100/1
M Webber 100/1
N Rosberg 100/1
S Speed 250/1
V Liuzzi 250/1
A Davidson 500/1
A Sutil 500/1
C Albers 500/1
T Sato 500/1

Ladbrokes current odds on WCC:

Ferrari 10/11
McLaren 7/4
Renault 5/1
Honda 8/1
Toyota 20/1
BMW Sauber 33/1
Williams 50/1
Red Bull 100/1
Toro Rosso 100/1
Spyker 150/1
Super Aguri 500/1

If anyone recommends any other good betting F1 sites post em here. Maybe we could keep this thread running throughout the season and celebrate any winning stories.

Yes I do!

Start of the year is the best time to bet on F1.

Those Kimi odds are ridiculous!

The best bets would be the Renault guys and also the BWMs. Can't wait for the Melbourne race odds are up. If the BMWs and Renaults are that low - it would be worth putting some $$ on them.

Also the Williams may be worth a bet or two early in the season.

Offcourse for the championship it should be limited to Mclaren, Ferrari, Renault and perhaps BMW.

Interesting to see Kubica ahead of Heidfeld and as you said Kova ahead of Fisi.

Lol sportingbet have just slashed odds on RK and NH from 80/1 to 40/1.

When do sites start taking bets on the first race?

Not long now!

Our(Finland's) monopoly betting agency is so sissy that they allow F1 betting only week before or something. So that they can have most secure odds...

Yeah its a shame they dont open first race betting till later or else i'd say most of us could potentially clean up on the BMWs.

Still the bookies dont get everything right. I did very well on the Renault's in Melb in 2005.

F1 fan knows it ;)

But seriously nice thread, was thinking about betting a bit on F1 after winning some flimsy intra-company competiton last year, hope to get some pointers as to where to best place some bets.
Do most of those agencies also accepting bets on individual races?

Well you know im a Kimi fan right... ;) hehe but i do still think they are too low - for now anyway.

Yes they take bets for every race during the year. I dont bet online but do go to my local betting agency and bet their.

Most agencies take bets for : Driver Wins and Places (top 3), Team Wins and Places, Quinellas (1-2 combos - which are the most lucritive) and some do points placings aswell. Betting early in the season is best as the bookies are pretty much in the same position as we are and dont know who are truly competitive.

On a side note - who made any money off Indy 05?

I went to my local TAB to bet on MS/RB aswell as the Jordan's and Minardi's but they closed 5 minutes before hand. It would have been a windfall!!!

Because that's not possible here I'll be taking my chances online, I found out last year that having another (financial or other) interest in a race, spices up even the most boring races.

Seriously that is probably the main reason to do it. It really does make boring races interesting. It can also be interesting when a driver you dont like wins - atleast you still come out a winner.

I was looking at about $180 for Alonso/Kimi in Monaco last year but when he DNF'd - I made $350 on Alonso/Montoya instead :p

Though you tend to have a few bad weekends in a season aswell.

Good luck

Went in the local Coral yesterday- they only take bets on the first race a week before the start of the season.

Luckily I only breathed out whilst speaking to the attendant and hence still have my lungs intact.

I made about 1000€, did not dare to bet anymore on account of fearing the Michelin tams might actually race.

As a non-betting person, I have a question, or two.

How do Ladbrokes generate these odds ? is there an F1 fan who works there, whose job it is to estimate them ?

And then once they've posted the odd, if they take a ton of money on say Kimi, so they lower the odd on Kimi and raise everyone elses to "balance" their books whatever the outcome ?

I guess what I'm really asking is, "Are the odds on Kimi thier opinion of the odds, or really just the odds, which mean they won't loose money if Kimi does win ?"

I was thinking about betting, but as there are no more stint-times I don't feel like having a clue which team has the edge (not that I was actually 100% right last year).

This is probably the best site for comparing what all the bookies are offering.

http://www.oddscheck...aone/scard/8650

Given McLarens recent form it looks pretty good value to go each way on Hamilton @ 33/1. You can still get 40/1 on BMW for constructors (Honda @ 14/1 and Toyota @ 33/1).

At first they "guess" and yes, then it's just maths.

Heidfeld's odds are far too low if BMW is fastest. $100 for $6600 that is quite profitable, bookies appear to be gunning to lose money on F1, mad bookies! :rotfl:

Ooh, famous last words there ;) Bookies are no fools. Tread carefully :)

On a general tone- Kovalainen is shorter than Fisi because Fisi is a known quantity and the bookies are confident he wont win it. But Kova is a wildcard who could be a phenomenon so they'reslightly hedging their bets. I'd be sligtly surprised if Kova beat Fisi in his first year although not half as surprised as I would be if LH beat FA.

An each way bet on Barrichello might be an idea. He has also lost 5kg this off-season. Those WCC odds are too short though and I've no faith in going as far down as Toyota.

Some of you guys are nuts.

As if BMW or Hamilton or Hekki is going to step up and win a championship.

It's Kimi/Alonso and McLaren/Ferarri over the season as the odds suggest.

I agree that they are the deserved favourites for the title, but betting is all about value and however unlikely an event is if the odds offered are 40/1 when it should be a 20/1 chance then its worth covering.

I don't think BMW will win the championship, but their testing form indicates they're likely to be a lot better than what most of those odds suggest.

Opposite for Jenson Button. There's no way in hell he's the 4th biggest favourite right now.

Altho I think bookmarkers have kept up with BMW's nice pre-season, here's the current odds on betandwin:

Kimi Raikkonen (FIN/Ferrari) 2.60
Fernando Alonso (ESP/McLaren) 2.70
Felipe Massa (BRA/Ferrari) 5.50
Jenson Button (GBR/Honda) 14.00
Heikki Kovalainen (FIN/Renault) 15.00
Giancarlo Fisichella (ITA/Renault) 20.00
Nick Heidfeld (GER/BMW-Sauber) 30.00
Lewis Hamilton (GBR) 30.00
Rubens Barrichello (BRA/Honda) 30.00
Robert Kubica (POL/BMW-Sauber) 30.00
Alexander Wurz (AUT/Williams) 60.00
Ralf Schumacher (GER/Toyota) 60.00
Jarno Trulli (ITA/Toyota) 60.00
Mark Webber (AUS/Red Bull) 80.00
David Coulthard (GBR/Red Bull) 80.00
Nico Rosberg (GER/Williams) 100.00

BMW dropped from 60.00 to 30.00 already?

From Veikkaus? Their odds for MS-RB were only ~14 at the end IIRC so getting 1000 from them would have been not bad at all.

If betting per race, aside from wins, going each way on certain carefully selected non-favoured drivers could still earn you a nice payout on certain tracks. Hoping to apply that luck again this year on a few well-placed bets to finance my expensive travel habits :drunk: Well, or at least pay for the return ticket Gatwick Express.

Agreed. If you go for the underdog with good information and don't want to loose serious money, Massa is the best bet. That's where Bernie's money is, and I doubt he would put 100 bucks one way or the other. More like [edit]a hundred times that.

But if you just bet money you don't care loosing, people sometimes just go for the really odd chances, just in the hope of making profit out of relatively little money. If they lost, they don't care very much. Go BMW for the WCC? It is a win-win situation! :D

Sorry, mate, you are contradicting yourself. You have said previously above:

Well, all the odds put on a reasonable chance for Massa, far from "impossible". If you follow what the odds suggest, that is.

Sure. I do sports betting for a living, and have had some good seasons in F1 as well (although the new qualification rules for 2006 cost me my edge on qualification h2h betting).

For odds comparison I see you've already got a recommendation about oddschecker.com, but www.betbrain.com is slightly better for comparing outright odds at online bookies (oddschecker.com mostly includes UK bookies with betting shops), both WDC/WCC and for each race.

There are different betting options on an F1 weekend, where most bookies put up odds on qualification and race winners and podium. Quite a few also include points betting, where going for the Heidfelds and Coulthards of the last couple of seasons at 2/1 and above really pays off in the long run (steady finishers who will pick up the 7th and 8th spots after the McLarens and Hondas blow up). The problem with all these outright markets though, is that the bookies usually present a market with only 75-80% payback, which means they have a huge theoretic advantage compared to the punters. A more interesting market is therefore the race and qualification h2h's or group betting (usually 4 drivers), where you place a bet on which driver will finish the best. These markets usually has around 89-92% payback.

I could make some recommendations on online bookmakers as well, if requested.

If you actually believe what you're saying, you can make a surebet of about 50% by combining Raikkonen at 2.75 and Alonso at 3.30 for WDC. But I'm guessing you won't be putting your money behind your word.

I will but not yet, too early, i wait until the late tests to make a call.

I remember Rubens at 33/1 to finish second in 2002 and I waited a week ...... dropped to like 2/1 ...... DOH!!!!!

Personally, I don't see much value in betting on the title's. The return on your investment combined with the risk over the best part of a year isn't attractive enough for me.

I would (and do) prefer to bet on each race as it comes. The only reason I would bet on the drivers title, would be with the intention of trading off the bet on the exchange. Someone like Hamilton would be perfect for this - if he gets of to a good start his odds should tumble.

Belive it or not the two drivers who have given me the best return of the last couple of years are Montoya and Massa. Wether it be on a pole position or race win, the 'pre-conception' people have about 2nd drivers effects the odds and presents good opportunities.

On a number of occasions these '2nd' drivers have been quicker in practice on tracks they enjoy and tracks the first team driver hates and is going slow in practice. Yet - the first team driver will still be favourite. This is when it's worth a bet.

For example odds of 9-1 on massa to get pole in Turkey last year! The real odds should have been as low as 2-1 at least.

Hamilton 52 - 56
Button 46 - 50
Kovalianen 42 - 46
Fisichella 42 - 46
Heidfeld 40 - 44
Kubica 38 - 42
Barrichello 24 - 27
Rosberg 18 - 21

Maybe I am in the minority but I expect Kovi and Hamilton to struggle much the same way Nico did. Hamilton more so, because the year of testing surely must have helped Heiki, and also the new Friday rules. But even if he does turn out to be a better driver in the longrun, I don't expect him to score many more points then Fisi. I expect Fisi to score more points this year.

We will see how it turns out at the end.

As for the betting, don't like to myself but the prices and points spreads are very interesting. It'll be interesting to see how much they change after the first race.

Think you've got a good point there, especially in relation to Heikki's odds / spreads. Although people have written Fisi's championship chances off its still unlikely that he'll get the measure of Fisi until later in the season.

That's what I'm thinking too.

Now obviously, both Hamilton and Kovalainen have shown lots of talent in lower formulas, so they could surprise, but I'm not expecting any more than what you said.

Handball, cycling, winter sports, Formula 1 and football (soccer), in that order.

The only way to make a living from Casinos besides owning them is to play live poker, because the house has a statistical edge in all other games (though it's very close to 50-50 in blackjack if you're counting cards in a sophisticated manner). Therefore, Casinos are for fortune hunters and pro poker players, and none of these groups includes me :)

My opinion is that F1 is good for betting because it is more like a game of chess than real racing, so the race scenarios are easier to build without the randomness of too much on-track passing.

They really are not odds offered by Veikkaus. Veikkaus is simply the bookie thus the odds reflect distribution of bets over contestants. Hence they seem ridiculous because home boys have made ridiculous bets...

At those odds best bets seem Hamilton and Heidfeld, perhaps I should put a fiver on quick Nick. That said I hope/guess/believe, what ever difficult to tell apart, that Kimi finally takes it.
