The Nürburgring GmbH has announced that good ol Michael will receive the honours of having a part of the track named after him

The Schumacher S will be the new name of the left-right combo after the Dunlop curve.

Michael will also be attending the race (as a spectator I assume :) ) on July 22, 2007.

His most memorable drive was possibly in 95, overtaking the leading Jean Alesi on the last lap to take home the first of his total of 5 wins at the Ring.

Source: German BTW...

If they were being smarter they could have called it the "Michael S"

Accordind to the autosport article he will "do a lap of honour around the circuit ahead of the German Grand Prix". I wonder on what kind of vehicle :)

The 2000 GP was also memorable, when he completely dominated the race during wet conditions. The only driver who managed not to get lapped was Mika Hakkinen

Is it a corner where there's lots of collisions?

No. It's not even a corner where Schumacher has parked his car. Pity :drunk:

Maybe it's a corner where a lot of Mclarens have broken down.

No idea, ensing...maybe forix has the answer.

Anyway, Esses are usually good fun, like the ones at Suzuka - if you **** up the entry, everything goes pearshaped :D

Actually the corner after Dunlop is called Audi-S now, as far as I understand. I reckon Audi is not that happy at all.

Yeah, I think that was where J.P. Puntoya knocked out Coulthard.

Was that what you were referring too?

Am I the only one that thought this thread was about the latest member of the Schumacher dynasty to enter F1? Young Steffon Schumacher perhaps?

Could lead to interesting commentary scenarios: "And Schumacher's going into Schumacher..."

Well, the first chicane at Interlagos was named Senna S while he was still driving.

JPM took Coulthard out in the 1st corner. The new "Schumacher S" is the corners next to where JPM passed MS on the outside. ;)

Alonso has his own corner in Valencia too. Though he can pass through it only in testing.

Can't you do something useful and wind Todd up?

It shouldn't be overlooked that Schumacher designed the corner, so it was already "his", just not in name sake.

Is it where Alonso brake tested Coulthard in 2003?

Nurburgring map

the Schumacher "S" appears here as the unnamed ess after the Dunlop Curve.

Schumacher did have a hand in the re-design of the chicane prior to the final corner, but not this section of track.

Hakkinen "managed" to finish less than 14 seconds behind Schumacher.

of the four left rights in that circuit, I think the third would be most appropriate, it looks the trickier of them all (turns 11 and 12), but that one's regarded as two separate corners.

It seems they have repainted the kerbs there and generally changed things about a bit.

I m sure it means a lot to him getting a corner named after rather then some awards and stuff. :)

The first three corners at Magny-Cours have also been re-named, but this time after legenadary multiple world champion Olivier Grouillard.

Stowe has been renamed The :drunk: curve.

Perhaps after today it should be called the Hamilton Straight?

How ironic that an S corner is named after Schumacher, considering that he wasn't known for driving straight.

Arg. Another person who doesn't understand the meaning of the word "irony" and its cognates.

Perhaps it's named after brother Ralf?

Anyone got an online video link to the podium ceremony of MS and Ron Dennis? Unfortunately I was unable to see the race.
