I have a silly question in my mind that I need to get off my chest so here it goes. If Lewis Hamilton will win a GP what anthems will we hear? I mean obviously God save the queen but two times seems a little bit silly so does he get only one anthem (unfair in my mind) or do they play something english?

Only one anthem. Same happened when Coulthard used to win, or when Capirossi wins for Ducati. Not that that happens anymore.

I couldn't remember how many times God Save The Queen was played when Coulthard, Hill, or Mansell won.
So I had to look up what the rules says:

The FIA sporting regulations for 2007 strangely doesn't specify which national anthems are to be played on the podium. However the regulations for 2008 says that the national anthem of the winning driver and the winning team will be played, which seems to imply that in case the driver and the team are of the same nationality, that national anthem will be played twice in 2008.

They would only play the anthem once.

But... but! What if the driver is from Liechtenstein? Then you might hear the same toon twice :drunk:

Why's that? I'm no expert in Liechtenstein, but thought they had just 1 anthem, called (well, according to Wiki anyway...) Oben am jungen Rhein, meaning "High Above the Young Rhine".

Ah, interesting (ish ;) ), so it's the same tune as the German (I preusme) but with Liechtensteinian lyrics...albeit sung in the German language, what with Liechtenstein being the smallest German speaking nation an' all that...

Thanks for the quick answers now it begins to clear up in my head. I think they ought to play some english song for him but I doubt they will but hope brings eternal. It seems a bit unfair giving him less time on the podium because he's a Brit, and playing verse two is like playing verse one because unfortunatly Britain has the most boring anthem of them all. I have no doubt I'll get my answer this season if Hamilton plays his cards right which I have every confident in him to do.

Why would they play something 'English' for Hamilton? They didn't play 'Flower of Scotland' for DC. Anyway our English friends would get upset with the words!;)

Maybe they should play a calypso tune with all the preseason hype about his ethnicity
