Who can tell me more about the Minos F2 drived by Brian Muir at Thruxton in 1976. He crashed in the first lap.

All I know (from David Hodges' book) is that it was based on a 1975 Birrana 274 Formula Atlantic Car powered by a BDX engine and entered (or at least financially backed ) by Bob and Marj Brown.
This car also ran during practice at Pau but didn't make the grid.

It was based on 1973 BIRRANA 273, chassis #006, not 274....... the remains of the MINOS is in West Australia, remains only..........no engine or gearbox...

I presume it was based on 1 of the 2 Birranas raced here in FAt in 1975. Muir ran most of the year, and got progressively quicker, the 2nd car ran occasionally for Dean Hosking.
The team gave up on the Minos early on in the 76 F2 season, buying a Chevron B35 instead for Bob M. He put that car on the front row at Nogaro (??) in July 76, up against some v fast cars/drivers.

A "Minos Ford" raced in the 1979 Australian Grand prix, driven by veteran Bill Downey. It DNF'd after 30 laps.
The text in the book is a little unclear about the car. "Although entered in a Birrana he actually raced his Minos." So, was this car "the" Minos in question?
I really must have a long talk with Bill Downey one day.

I don't think the car actually belonged to Bill Downey, and as far as I can tell it's the only time it ever raced in WA, or rather, the only time a Minos ever raced in WA. It wouldn't be the first time Bill persuaded someone to lend him a car to race. So there's a gap between say 1975 and 1979 to be filled.

A dig through my WA race results 1980-1986 shows no more "Minos". In 1984 Ross Zampatti appeared at Wanneroo in February and March in a Birrana, placed in the first 3 in all his races, then switched to a Ralt, which he drove irregularly in WA until my results sheets run out at the end of 1986. The Ralt seems to have been a lot less reliable than the Birrana - heaps of DNFs.

Bernie might well have entered it as a Birrana... and his son drove it too, have you got records of that?
There must also have been some reason for the grid sheets, practice times and results of the AGP to have had 'Minos' typed on them. It was certainly there!
Could it be, perhaps, that Bernie just called it a Birrana, Bill realised it wasn't and changed his entry after having arranged to drive the car, then it returned to Bernie and its anonymity?

The Birrana 273 you are taking about was restored in VICTORIA around 1885, it is the ex Peter Brock car and was bought for Bernie as a Birthday present by his family and was a suprise gift at the time.................

Extremely doubtful. There was a restriction on engine sizes and power at Cadwell during that period at least. Whilst Formula Three visited - often resulting in some badly bent cars - there was nothing higher to my knowledge in those days.
