I have been looking at some of the pictures, as well as reading a thread on this very subject on the SPEED TV forums, found here.

To me, it looks like the red has a slight pearl effect to it, and may be a bit of a deeper, less dayglo red?

Anyone else notice this? Could it be just a Monaco-special red that they're using?

I thought the same at first, too, but look at this and this picture, and you can see that the red is a little deeper, and there is a definite pearl-effect in the red paint.

You can really see the pearl/metallic effect with the sun shining on the nose.

Yeah, now with the darker red colour, the metallic looking parts come more to expression :)

That is great news, I've been waiting for it.

The cars used to be darker red years ago, and I hated it when they made them lighter red.

On Speed's coverage of practice this morning Peter Windsor commented that Ferrari has been working on this paint formulation for about a year. I wonder the new metallic tinge was prompted by McLaren's new-for-2006 chrome job?

Regardless, the redder the better.

Wow, that is SO much better than the anaemic orangey-tomato that they've been using in recent years it's astonishing.

I think in the years 1999-2001/2 or something the cars were more orange than they were in the last couple of years.

Very nice, hope it's faster!

This color must be the same as Ducati's motogp color which was defined at its intro as "Red Racing Chrome"! See: http://www.italiaspe..._2007/1901.html

So probably a red candy apple over chrome base.

The Ferrari paint looks great.

Why on Earth would you think Ferrari have ever been influenced by McLaren? They whore their livery to the highest bidder. They had that dreadful grey livery for years and now they've switched to pretty chrome. Next year, who knows? Stick enough cash in Ron's greasy hands and he'll paint it whatever you want.

Ferrari know where they stand with livery, sure, slight changes in tone occur from time to time, but you know that Ferrari F1 cars will always be red. McLaren is just "one of the others", and when you watch a race in 5, 10 or 20 years time, you'll need to look up which is the McLaren, whereas the Ferrari you will know in a glance.

I thought this years car looked pretty good already but this is a marked improvement.

Shame it's ruined by the cigarette branding for the moment.

I happen to think that it looks better with the Marlboro branding, but each to their own. And no, I don't smoke.

Would it be entirely inappropriate to opine that the ciggy branding looks fantastic compared to the bar code mess they've been sporting?

No. In fact, I prefer the present Marlboro branding versus those previously featuring the white peak of the cigarette packages on the airbox, never mind the bar code thingy.

If they painted the front and rear wings black, that would be simply poetic. It's a very good idea anyway.

WHITE wings (or polished aluminium at a pinch) and GOLD wheels, and it might start to look like a proper Ferrari.

Please remind me who was the whore that sold her soul to Marlboro and changed her paint tone?

I agree with the other part of your post and I love the new livery, but that was pure bile on your part.

In my view this is the only good move that Ferrari have made in say, the past 14 years. The colour look especially nice in this shot.

Well, the new shade of Red is nice, but black wings, no. All Red is better and wings are part of a formula 1 car. No need to hide them.

A much more appealing shade  Why dont they use it all the time? I was under the thinking that the dayglo (read ****) orange red theyve been using for years was because it was lighter (in mass).

 to black wings. they could just lacquer the carbon fibre it would be f-ing awesome. Or make them out of aluminium like the gilles/scheckter cars they looked cool.

bernie should impose a new rule for aesthetic qualities of cars where the ugliest get deducted points and the most beautiful are allowed flexiwings or something

This new colour is great. I really like it.   for Ferrari. Easily the best looking car on the grid, now.

I'm not sure I'd like the black wings back. Or the white, for that matter. Perhaps someone could Photoshop them a bit to get a clue?

If the car was attacked by a flock of diarrhetic seagulls it would still look better than the barcode mess.

By the way, here's what someone had to say at F1Fanatic.co.uk about why Ferrari introduced their now colour at Monaco.

ferrari knew people would be kicking up a fuss about tobacco branding, and maybe refusing to publish pictures of the team. because they didn’t want that to happen (in monaco of all places), they made a change that would ensure fans would be interested in *seeing* pictures of the team.

how can you *not* show images of a car that’s returned to it’s proper colour for the first time in years.

subtle, but clever. hats off to the marketing peeps i say.

Actually, I think the contrary. The grey came in when West took over as sponsor. What are West's colours? Hint: not grey.

Grey and black are West Light's colours, I believe.

I think the West McLaren Mercedes livery was one of the best and one of the most refined in the history of modern F1 cars. It wasn't grey either, as I'm sure you know. It was silver, white and black with a touch of red. They weren't called the silver arrows just because of Mercedes.

The new Ferrari red does look ace!
