There is a rumor that Franck Montagny is gonna be on a Toyota in the France GP due to the low performance of Ralfie.

what do you think ?

This is never ever going to happen. Toyota management aren't too smart, but they will never replace Ralf, third best driver in the world with a crap like Montagny.

Trully might be a marginally better qualifier, but Ralf is a much better racer than Trulli. He has proved it many times. I bet on Ralf beating Trulli in the race today.

Maybe Franck is not the best driver in the world, but sure that right now has a lot more motivation than Ralfie, who looks to underperform when he has not a fast car compared to trulli.

The key here is motivation ...

How old is Frank? He doesn't look like a hungry for success rookie, that is eager to enter into F1.
Professional test drivers have never been good GP drivers. Just remember Zonta, Wurz and Pedro.

Wurz ended 3rd on Imola 2005 his only race that year.
Pedro ended 5th in Bahrein 2005 (kimi was 3rd) in his only race that year, and was 2nd on Hungary 2006.

Drivers need to drive often to get the feeling of real race. It's not the same testing that the real race.

That's exactly my point. Montagny won't do a better job than Ralf, he would keep crashing into someone at the start due to the lack of racecraft. And Montagny is too old to be able to quickly learn something.

What does a "titular driver" mean?

Sounds somewhat rude!

IMO Montagny or Glock probably would be around the same level of performance, with a much smaller pay-check. If they can sack Ralf without having to pay a big compensation to him, I don't know why wouldn't they do it.

About Sutil, I think he's quite fast, but unless he learns to keep it on the road more often, it's a big risk to sign him. Ralf at least reaches the finish line.

I think what Toyota should do is to promote Montagny to race driver, and try to sign Rosberg for next year. It might be relatively expensive to get him from Williams, but he's probably the biggest proven talent out there who could want to drive for Toyota.

Damon Hill wasn't that bad. Neither, for that matter, was Olivier Panis.
