An excellent observation re. Luton and its standing compared with Stevenage. Where I come from both are usually treated with derision, contempt, and, let's face it, fear.Originally posted by kar
Stevenage isn't so bad. Well, okay it is, but if you live in Luton it might not seem so bad.
Of course, it might be said, if you come from Luton, Guantanamo might not seem so bad.

It's the place of one of our company's facilities. The little bits of the place I've seen didn't make me rush out and buy a house there. Looked like a bit of a New Town to me. I've been told the little villages around Stevenage are much nicer though...Originally posted by Contrary
Have you ever been to Stevenage, birth place of Saint Lewis of Hamilton? If so, what did you think? (And if not - what have you heard?)

Fear? Of Luton? It's about as scary as self-raising flour.Originally posted by Contrary

Probably in the main, yes - but I think a copper got murdered there the other day, which, whilst it could happen anywhere, probably isn't a good sign.
I think Stopsley (qualifies as Luton?) isn't quite so scary though

"No and I know nothing about it (but it's probably a shithole)".

However, for the terminally bored I can thoroughly recommend http://www.stevenage.com
Click on "History" and you are presented with a blank page. Click on "Attractions" and, after you've finished rolling about laughing ask yourself whether the statement: "No unauthorised use of photographs may be made without the express permission of the copyright holder" is intended to be ironic!

Heh - nice!
I was discussing this, and think that Stevenage, due to its unusual road layout (all dual carriageways and roundabouts...the town of approx 90,00(?) people has only 1 set of traffic lights apparently!) would actually be quite ideal for Hamilton to do a demonstration of the McLaren F1 car around. The roads are generally straight, in good condition, and not screwed up by hundreds of patchwork repairs and drain covers etc...at least there are some like this.
It would be great for the folks of Stevenage and North Hertfordshire if Ron Dennis could see fit to allow this - perhaps if Hamilton manages to win the WDC. It was sad the Stevenage (new town) was ever added to the map, but would be good if Hamilton's possible success were to really put it on the map.

I'd put it on a par with Milton Keynes. ie the worst places are bad....but the nice place is OK.
