The decision on the drivers will be made in the middle of January. As for the late launch date (compared to the others teams) of the RB5/STR4, Newey would have wanted to still incorporate the most recent improvements - found in the windtunnel - in the launch version of the new car.

STR are unlikely to be receiving their car until March as Red Bull Technology are letting them do a lot more of their own work on it this year.

A Toro Rosso spokesperson: ''We're planning to test at Portimao from the 19th till the 22nd but it's still unclear with which drivers. From that you can conclude that the driver pairing for this season isn't yet set certain and we don't have a deadline for the definite decision either.''

Why's that? I think it's nuts, and detrimental to team/driver stability.

The one that doesn't get the second seat will probably won't find a seat elsewhere this season. I'm beginning to fear STR is only going to announce its drivers not long before the season. Surely they could have made a decision by now in terms who they regard as the best driver (for the team)...

it seems to be taking a long time for their decision. must be a though decision between sato and bourdais. sounds like that bs story about sato bringing lots of sponsorship money was false.

Or maybe they are waiting to see what happens with Honda ?

I'd take Button over Boardais or Sato, no matter how much money they bring.

Bourdais out the car would be a good improvement for the team in the 1st place.

The complete disregard this team has shown for drivers and their careers is completely unprofessional. I have lost all fondness and sympathy for this team and I sincerely hope they finish in last place for 2009.

What are they waiting for in case of Bourdais and Sato? Do they want to decide it 1 day before the first Race??? It is already to late for one of the two drivers who doesnt get the Job to find a Cockpit anywhere else in 2009. How unprofessionell is Red Bull and Toro Rosso? Unbelievable.

Yeah poor Sato, they can better tell him he has the seat.

Crybaby Bourdais can go back to IRL or somthing..... if they want him back.

Surely the team already know what both drivers are capable of? Unless there are sponsorship issues delaying the confirmation of one or the other....

Agreed, utterly unprofessional. Might as well state openly what the issue is, rather then being quiet like this

Why would making a public statement and possibly causing further embarrassment to the drivers be more professional? At the end of the day the only ones owed any explanation are those concerned.

This will be the final year of the Red Bull Technology collaboration, right? Maybe they will launch both cars RBR and STR together.

STR's website has no longer a french version and now has a japanese one.

Is that any indictation of something? :smoking:

Toro Rosso are expected to have a more hands on approach to the STR4 this year and it is unlikely that it will be unveiled until March, shortly before the season-opener.
