We've heard about this one before:
"Chrysler M4 tank engine 5,244 (87) 30 cyl, 5 banks of 6, flathead, WWII"
Although the introductory comments mention variations for inclusion of ancillaries etc, there's very few engines listed which have notations of the state in which they were weighed.
In other words, for the most part, this is useless for anyone wanting an accruate comparative figure...

That list has been knocking around the Interwebs for awhile, and while it's a noble effort and a great idea in theory, you can see the problems. As Ray noted, who knows what kind of apples and oranges might be listed here. Unless the engines are all dressed out the same by the various mfg'ers or other sources, the stats are basically meaningless. A flywheel may weigh 30 or 40 lbs. Was it included or not, and how do you know for sure?
