Friends,

I'll be vacationing in (on?) Cape Cod next week. Anyone have any idea where I might catch the Turkish Grand Prix on television? I'll be staying in Chatham. Thanks.

There's a bunch of relevant TV schedules in this thread . Not that helpful, but the thread looked so alone and unanswered... :(

As a Bostonian, my initial reaction to your thread title was one of shock, that Bernie had short-listed the stretch of Route 6 between Wellfleet and P-town as an alternative to the abandoned IMS for the next USGP.

If you can find lodging that offers Speed TV, you'll have no problem viewing the action in Turkey. I believe race-day coverage begins at 7:30am, GMT minus 5.

I've been down to Wellfleet and Truro once a year for the last 25 years, and thought the same thing. Maybe a sort of American Zandvoort up and over the national seashore dunes  Bernie might enjoy some of the mansions

If Bernie and the rest of the F1 supremos think the traffic in and out of Magny Cours is difficult, just imagine their reaction to Cape Cod traffic restrictions! The traffic may well be backed up as far as Boston .....
Still, the prospect of racing on the Cape would be spectacular ... a modern day Mille Miglia? Or maybe a rally-style event with mandatory stops at all artists studios and flea markets on the route?
Just a thought ...

Every year I encounter a friend who, for whatever reason, goes on a vacation abroad....

... and happens to be near a race, when the race is happening.

A trombonist/keyboard player friend of mine tells me one year "yeah, I just got in from Japan... we stayed neared this place where they had all of these cars you'd like... there must have been some sort of race track near, because you could hear these cars in the distance" ... "So Nate" I say... "Does this place where you were at, when you heard the cars... did you see a ferris wheel?", and Nate says "Hey! Yeah, there was a ferris wheel there, now that you mention it....Does that mean something, should we have gone over there? "....

Great.

Every year, a friend of mine tells me something like that. "Yeah, we were at this place called "Nurburg", I'm sure you've never heard of it, but I kept seeing all of these Italians waving Ferrari flags around"...

2003, I'm looking at photos online someone took at Monza, and see a picture of a Very Famous Singer You've Heard of Before performing in town - and there's a friend of mine playing with him on stage there... Next time I see him I ask "how was Italy?" and he says "dude... you're into that Formula racing stuff, aren't you? Man, they wanted to show us around the Ferrari factory, but man it was a late night before and we didn't do it"... Ahrgg...

2004, a former student was in Spain: "yeah, the people I was staying with got up early to go to one of those races you're into, kept talking about some Montoya guy, but I stayed in bed".

On and on... Although one time a friend was a on a paid trip to Italy to paint, and when he came back he says "man... we were supposed to go see this winery outside of town, but we got woke up by those F1 cars you're into, and went to find where they were... it was amazing, people were climbing up in trees to watch.. it was this one guy with I think an florescent red helmet helmet with blue on top, driving one of those cars around... we ended up staying the whole day to watch".

At least my friend Dave actually stayed and watched - his first F1 experience being seeing Schumacher testing at Fiorano - for free.

So, when I see this topic, I'm thinking "my fiancee is returning tomorrow from Boston for an American Chemical Society meeting, and what this means is that McLaren are doing a demonstration run through the street somewhere within (relatively) nearby distance of where she's at".

I can hear it now: "hey... you know, they *were* clearing the street for *something* tomorrow...".... "You know... isn't "McLaren" one of your F1 racing things? They were talking about a "McLaren demo" at the hotel for tomorrow, but..."....

But ok, no *actual* F1 in Mass.... Ok, ok....

Thanks, everyone.

I was kinda picturing a harbour-front cafe with giant screen and even bigger platters of fried clams, but ... I guess I have to keep my fingers crossed that the cottage we've rented carries Speed ...

I'm not a Bostonian, so my reaction wasn't as specific as to the route, but it certainly piqued my interest in a similar way. :)

Any possible track would need to include both bridges.

in case you've access to a laptop and broadband....

www.livesporton.tv

it's worth subscribing too if you're in a difficult spot and safe and legit.
we do it every race and that's just to get it 2 hours earlier than tv in australia.
