Instant nostalgia. The EuroBOSS cars supported the Champ Car championship race at Zolder last weekend. The race was won by the German driver Karl-Heinz Becker in his 3 litre V6 Dallara-Nissan. This is the first EuroBOSS win for a non-F1 car since Earl Goddard's Judd powered Reynard (F3000-F1 hybrid) won races in around 2000.

The race result was

1. Karl-Heinz Becker -19 laps- 30:23.814
2. Klaas Zwart - Ascari Benetton F1
3. Joachim Ryschka - GForce IRL
4. Jodie Hemming - Jordan F1
5. Carlos Tavares - Dallara
6. Ingo Gerstl - Dallara
7. Frits van Eerd - 1997 Tyrell F1
8. Henry Buettner - Reynard
9. Colin Stone - RAM Hart F1 turbo
10. Tony Hansford - Footwork F1
11. Peter Milavec - Dallara
12. Jean Claude Monbaron -Reynard
13. Pierre Schroeder - Ascari Benetton F1
NS Roberto Bibi (could not start, still gearbox problems) - Jordan F1

Great to hear that Karl-Heinz Becker finally has a win in EuroBOSS (a case of “to finish first, first you have to finish ? ). I remember Karl-Heinz first of all as a regular in Interserie, twenty years ago. He came to England for the Brands Hatch round in 1990 in an elegant Lola T600-BMW, one of the nicest looking cars of the 1980’s .

Many may recall Karl-Heinz in his Interserie Minardi. He was second to the much-missed “Frederico Careca” in the fantastic race at Donington in 1995 when the top 3 were separated by half a second. He was crowned the Interserie Div 1 champion at the end of that year.

He ran his F1 Minardi (sans mudguards) in EuroBOSS. I recall seeing him have a high-speed accident at Thruxton in 2000 but he came back and raced in the UK again in 2002 at Donington.

Well done, Karl-Heinz.

I guess the mudguards are mentioned, because they ran Formula cars with covered wheels in the Interserie.
Of course, this was after the time Interserie was competed with Porsche 917-10 etc. in the seventies.

Karl-Heinz Becker was also well known for his infamous/bulbous Luigi Colani styled Group 5 BMW 320, which he ran in the good old "Deutsche Rennsportmeisterschaft".

Colani 320

It is the model in the top right corner.

Many of the 1990s Interserie cars were former F1 and Indycars running with covered wheels in the Can-Am class. Some of these modifications were elegant designs; others looked like Austin 7 mudguards !!! Best/worst example of the latter was Ranieri Randaccio's F1 Fondmetal.

Check out http://www.racingspo...interserie.html to see some of these wonderful Interserie F1 hybrids

The car wasn't too bad really (like all Becker's cars); he did not have enough money to get a works kit for his car, so this was a different solution. Mind you, in later years the car even received a turbo engine...

I have to admit, that I did actually have a soft spot for the car, because it was something special.
Especially, after the started the turbo project !
Living close to Nuremberg and having worked for quite some years at and for the Norisring race, I really enjoyed the old Gr. 5 days.

yes , his T600 was nice in red sheme but later this car became ugly (shortailed...).
