Does anyone know if there was (or is, judging by the fresh tyre marks) a racing circuit at Nuremberg's Zeppelin Field, scene of the Nuremberg Rallies in the 30s?

These two 2007 satellite pics show what I am thinking of:

The possible circuit is within the yellow dashes. And the closeup below, showing part of the Nazi tribunes, is unmistakeably of a grid, a start-finish line, and pits with fresh tyre marks emerging from them. I'm not complaining, you undertstand, can't help thinking it's a far better use for the area, just curious because I've never heard of this circuit.

Definitely Norisring - not far from my home.
I used to go there since 1969 (first years with parents..) and worked in the press office for almost 10 years.

I stopped going there after the "new" DTM was introduced..

But some great races took place there, old Grp. 5 and Grp. C, even 2 years of consecutive World Championship races 86 and 87.

Unfortunately also known to be the circuit, where Pedro Rodriguez (and Csaba Kesjar) died.

Norisring? I never thought of that! Looks current, too.

By the way, Jürgen - a great homepage about one of my favourite (as a fan) tracks.

I have quite a few pictures from the late sventies up to the late eighties - unfortunately, they are all slides.
But I will get a scanner in the near future, so I could post a few.
But, this will take some more time - it is something to do during winter...

Regards,
Ralf

A fascinating website - and I had indeed heard of the Norisring, but didn't know where it was. I vaguely pictured a woodland setting . . .

Interesting how many variations were used.
