Oh wow, this is absolute gold dust. Many, many thanks.

Just on first impressions...if that's Dubreuil in the mechanic seat of the Werner, he looks like he might be the youngest participant in a decent quality motor sport event. He only looks about 12. Could it be Molar Jr? (a sort of milk tooth)

Those Werner cars look great. Seems the two cars had only one bodywork to share.

n°40, first entry gave Stoudza as driver, then L'Automobile said Molar, and from La Course Automobile à Dieppe we have Molon!

Well, at least there WAS a Molon or two. Molon or Molar? Something to get our teeth into.

The contemporary press:
L'Automobile, in the pre-race report:
no. 17 for Molon, no. 40 for G. Stourdza, no. 58 for Vallée;
in the race report:
no. 17 for Molar/Triguili, no. 40 for Molar/Dubreuil, no. 58 for Vallée/Georges;
in the results:
Molon jeune, Molon aîné (the younger and the older Molon), and Vallée

Omnia, in the pre-race report:
Molon, Prince G. Stourdza, Vallée;
in the results:
Molon jeune, Molon aîné, Vallée.

La Vie Automobile, in the pre-race report:
Molon, Prince Stourdza, Vallée;
in the results:
Molon jeune, Molon aîné, Vallée.

The problem is that the driver of no. 40 Werner does not look like one of the Molon brothers (in my view).
Maybe the mysterious Prince (Grigori?) Stourdza (of Moldavia?) is at the wheel in the photo, and was replaced by one of the Molon brothers.

Wonderful photos, many thanks for sharing them

While we were over in France in September (missing the Dieppe GP celebrations ): We did a lap of the Grand Prix course. The basis of the circuit was fairly obvious from the modern roads, although there are obvious changes, but we had hells own job picking up the start as the roads tight in to the town have been changed. If I'd seen photos of this quality before I'd left home I would have headed for the horse race track to see if the grandstands (shown in the photos) are still there, and it would have given me a good lead as to where to begin.

Maybe next year after Classic Le Mans :)

Thanks for posting these fantastic photos. These cars look very compact compared to the leviathans of the era.

Thanks for pointing out the earlier thread. As you say I should have checked and not relied on books. I'll print out the thread before I go to France next year.

PS We did the Boulogne circuit on the way back to the Shuttle and at least two thirds of that are still single carriageway and are very evocative of the period photos I have seen.

A few days before the race, the magazine Omnia published a photo showing a Werner (a prototype - wood wheels - no race number) with "our no. 40 driver" at the wheel. Comment: "Werner, montée par Molon".

So probably the driver of no. 40 Werner is Lucien Molon, and not Prince Stourdza with his valet de chambre as mechanic.
