Hello,

Begging the indulgence of the forum for a newbie/lurker. I know of the Marcos - Costin-Nathan - Protos - Amigo string of cars designed by Mr Frank Costin, and of course pre-war, the Issigonis lightweight special. But are there any other other post-war cars out there that made extensive use of wood/plywood for their chassis? Especially monocoques?

I vaguely remember mention of a Sports 2000 car with a plywood body, but that's the limit of my knowledge. Any others?

Regards
Glenn

PS Anyone have a copy of 'design for competition' for sale?

There was a Formula Ford car with plywood bodywork - the Getem GBB77. Have a look at the thread "The Getem story"....

Nobody seems to have mentioned the Clan Crusader (even on the previous thread) which had a plywood structure IIRC.

I thought - and could be wrong - that the plywood in the Clan was just reinforcement for the floor, and the main structure of the car was two fibreglass mouldings , joined together at the crease about one third up the side of the body.

The Ron Harris Protos F2 cars raced during the 60's had wooden chassis.

They don't qualify as "not designed by Frank Costin", though, do they?
:)

Was the S2000 car the Dud Moseley Motus. Vaguely rings a bell as 'wood related'.

I have seen a dark wood, almost a veneer, on the bottom of a Chevron B36. It covered the bottom of the tub completely and was held on with countersunk screws. It appears that a TOJ on that thread has wood underneath the front of the tub near the nose support tabs. I wondered why this was there (on both cars). What was the reason behind this? Was this (the wood) a period modification?
