I found a very strange picture. There is Jackie Stewart's car, with Avon tyres, but GoodYear painting over them. Look at the picture, and the rear wheels. Strange, isn't it???

Only Avon make F1 slicks these days, for the historic series.

Said owner just wanted to make his car look like it did as it ran originally (on Goodyears). Since he will have just bought the Avons commercially, he can do what he likes with them.

No. 'Cooper Tire and Rubber' owns Avon.

I'm guessing that the car in-question originally had Goodyear tires, but the only suitable replacement today are made by Avon. Therefore, paint "Goodyear" over the "Avon" for authenticity.

Was it these tires Paul Stoddart used in the preseason hassle when Minardi was dumped by Michelin and Bridgestone hesitated to take over ?

Yes, they were being used for F3000 at the time too, which is how Minardi had some.

There's even a Minichamps model of said car on Avon slicks, which is superb.

John Delane has that car on paid loan from Tyrrell. He, as several have said, just trying to present the car correctly.

Avon makes damn good tires BTW, better than Goodyear IMO.
