Sorry to highjack this thread but in my youth I used to visit the Motocycle Show in London in some years and collect the Castrol Books of Achievements, superb little booklets showing the racing drivers and riders who were sponsored by them. I wonder when they stopped producing them?

I remember them too - my grandfather used to send the book to me every year. A quick check on Abesbooks shows the earliest as 1933 and the latest as 1968 with a 75 years special "Wheels, wings and water" in 1974. If nothing else the Achievements books taught me that there is a tremendous variety of racing around the world.

According to my database, Castrol Achievements Books were published in the following years: 1925, 1929, 1930, 1932-1938, 1949-1957, 1959-1970, and 1994.

Was there not a 'Wheels, Wings and Water' show put on by Castrol at Olympia. I should still have the show guide here somewhere!

Pete, many thanks for the link. I have now contacted them. The archive now comes under BP and is based in Warwickshire. I mentioned the TNF prompt/link, and the very helpful staff member, below, to whom I spoke asked me to post the new contact details which she sent to me. Since her surname has changed from that on the original site I am assuming that her title is Mrs.

Thanks for the update Roger. They've obviously moved since I was over there a couple of years ago - and not yet updated the National Archive entry : .
