The German national daily Bild-Zeitung said the Finnish pair, who have two young children (Hugo and Aina-Julia) and live in Monaco, are parting ways.
"I am very surprised," said German motor sports commentator Hans-Joachim Stuck.
"To me they always seemed like the Finnish version of Michael and Corinna Schumacher -- a perfect couple," he added.
45-year-old Erja Hakkinen, whose maiden name is Honkanen, is a former television journalist. Mika Hakkinen recently retired from the German touring car series DTM.

Sad if true, many of the iconic images of Mika vs Schumi was the cut to the mcmover garage to see Erja's face scrunched up in disappointment

Oh well it is from the bild that's something anyway.

I met Erja at the Türku Rock festival in 97
I hooked up a TV backstage so we could watch the French GP.
She was really animated and funny. We had a great time till some security jack off hassled her about her pass

Still, divorce ain't nice...I'm sure the several million Finnish Markka she'll end up with will help soften the blow though.

Markka is almost ancient history by now. But I'm sure euros will help all the same

Funny i seem to remember the look of glee as Mika sailed past 'the Michael' in Spa and left him for dust...
Very sad news however, Erja was a presenter on TV in Finland and both her and Mika were loved by everyone...

Only for them to move to a slow motion replay of Jean Todt eating a banana.

Because they already almost divorced/broke up a few years back and there's been a continuous trickle of nasty/cynical tabloid whispers about the state of their marriage ever since.Originally posted by whatto999

But anyways divorces are not so dramatic always, especially if there's enough money around so that nobody gets in difficult situation.

Money doesn't make divorces easier, it makes them worse.
And it still messes with the kids. That's who this all is the worst news for.

i think you are wrong. money does indeed favor very much affairs... and divorces.
just think in the first place the numerous 'wrong' people you meet just because of your earning - if you are rich.
and the easy way to get 'in love' if you are a powerful person, or a rich one.
and about think the difficulty of divorce in poor people (the need of 2 houses, the expenses of child's, etc). unfortunately many couples don´t separate because of poor financial independence.

This doesn't respond to what I said, so I don't think you understood what I said.
Anyway though, even though it has nothing to do with what I wrote, anyone can have affairs.

This is an odd statement- do you have a problem with rich people? This is a really unnecessary, unfair characterization/generalization. What's this have to do with anything?

Yes, I agree that having money facilitates seperation because they can afford two places to live, etc, but I'm saying that divorces that involve large amounts of money statistically drag out substantially longer than other seperations and are much more messy. Couples with nothing to seperate have trouble with housing, etc, but once they seperate, they seperate and its done. With money, there are nasty court battles full of accusations, lies, fights, all that lovely stuff.

She came to our table and said "Mika was to join you for lunch. Unfortunately, he is not feeling well. You can therefore have me, or David."
Our vote was unanimous...

She worked the room of sponsors with much class.

True he has a few million quid to make it easier, but that is also more money that he will have to shovel at the ex.
