Like I say, I'm Definately probably mistaken: I'm just waiting for someone to pop up on th thread and say "I was stood next to Gerry in the pits watching that race", just to rid the lingering doubts I have!
Incidentally, anything could happen in those far flung days; around that time, Tony Lanfranchi managed to get past the stewards at Oulton and do a lap with an aerofoil attached to his helmet!!! (as a joke).
I seem to remember also seeing Denis Leech racing his Ford Falcon in a short-sleeved shirt, and as a pit marshal, the amount of helmet swapping to qualify cars & get times was unreal! Drivers qualified for races when they were at weddings, I reckon....
And I was an experienced flag marshal, flagging internationals on occasion, at 16 years of age.....!
Should really start a new thread, "Things you'd never get away with today"?............

The shunt involved no less than 9 car (Terry Horrocks, George Whitehead, Sid Fox, Tom Walkinshaw, Tony Needham, Brian Squires, Peter Wardle, Ricardo Archar and one K. Wilson). The first 4 home were:
1. Luiz Bueno (Merlyn); 2. Colin Vandervell (Merlyn); 3. Dick Barker (Alexis), and 4. Ed Patrick (Merlyn).

Any idea what car Terry Horrocks was driving that day? Some years later he drove what was described as the "Horrocks FF" which apparantly was a bitza cobbled together from various Brabham and Chevron parts - from (useless) memory I think it was a Chevron B9 chassis with Brabham suspension, or summat equally bizarre.

Terry was entered in an Alexis Mk 14.

A few years late here, hope you're all well!  I was just searching for Terry Horrocks and found this thread - he moved to Spain many many years ago.

I was an apprentice at Chevron (Derek Bennett Eng.) and helped Terry out at race-weekends, in this Oulton case he was in the Alexis, though where the 'Horrocks' car name came from is Boys Own stuff  .  Terry wrote the Alexis chassis off at Thruxton - Derek Bennett was always keen to hear how any of us (employees) got on in motorsport and when I told him of the accident, he said, "tell him he can have that then" pointing up to the ceiling where a chassis was hanging.  I can't remember what it was to be designated, but was an attempt at a FF chassis he didn't have time/inclination to finish.  Only rule was not to tell anyone it was a Chevron and we had to collect it on a Sunday when few were there.

The chassis was only 'tagged' together, so a few weeks of brazing and cobbling together drive shafts, wishbones etc etc - Terry made all of it (he was a fine engineer), all chalk lines on the floor stuff in a garage he rented next to the pub we used.

Terry did well in that car (well for a guy with very little money), within a couple of races he'd got it to be a major improvement over the Alexis. When the lack of money got to him, he sold up and went to live in Spain, he got into selling property I believe.

Great days!
