looking at the Ford Gt40 history I noticed there is a pretty forgotten car.... chassis # 1048 as it raced during the Willy Konig ownership. In my records the car competed in 4 events:
1969-06-29 Norisring Nuremburg 200 (Rouget) DNS
1969-10-12 Montlhery Paris 1000 Kms 1969 #5 (Rouget-Bayard) DNS
1969-10-19 Casablanca GP (Rouget) DNF - Crash
1970-10-25 Montlhery (Rouget) DNF
1971-04-18 Le Mans 3 Hours (Rouget-Geurie) DNF - Crash
At Le Mans in 1971 the car was white with red front lid and black rocker panels. It had a "cut off" tail looking kind of the Porsche 917 tail. During the race the car erupted in flames and was totally burnt out.
I found a B/W picture of the car at the Paris 1000 Kms in 1969 on the french magazine "Auto Passion" (Issue #68) and the car looked a light color (white?) with a darker painted nose. With 3 DNFs and 2 DNS the car seems pretty unsuccessful but it still part of the GT40 history and I`d like to have more information of it. Anybody has more pictures of the car or know what color he car was in the earlier events it attended?
Thanks in advance for your attention
Regards,
Andy

You can find some more detailed information about 1048 from these two years here:

The burned car was later rebuilt by Franco Sbarro and the sold to France.

It featured in a Classic cars article a while after the first Le Mans Classic where we had it in an auction and Phill Bell took the car round the circuit as a test between or before the first session. I was following it for a while in a Jag.......
Incredible car!
it was subsequently raced by Richard Meins who went on to bay one of the prototype GT40s with which he won the spirit of Goodwood award at the revival last year.

GT40 #1048 was actually maintened and probably entered by Sbarro himself (under the A.C.A. Racing Club banner) for the 1000 km of Paris in October 1969.
Rouget raced/rallied alternatively 1020 and 1048 until the spring of 1970, and then sold (or leased ?) 1020 to Patrice Grellier and Jean-Claude Geurie who entered it in national races (Montlhéry, Magny-Cours...). [Rouget had an international license, but in 1970 Grellier and Geurie had a French national license only and couldn't enter international races for this reason.]
1020 was not seen on the tracks after the 1970 season and went to the Le Mans museum, while 1048 was back for the 1971 Le Mans 4 Hours with Rouget and Geurie (who, by this time, got his international license).
The two partnered again in 1972 when they formed the Shark Team. But by this time, the GT40s were replaced by Capris.

And who bought 1020 ? (not the museum)
That is the question my dear. Honestly I don't know. I once thought it was Henri Chemin, but that was a mere supposition. I was never in position to ask him.
I am not sure that Rouget himself was aware of the chassis numbers of his cars. He purchased two GT40s in racing condition from or through Sbarro for his racing activities and because he had such an opportunity. But he was not interested in their previous history and pedigree.
