Hello... at Kyalami in 1970 the David Piper Porsche 917K was painted in the Gunston colors (of course orange with brown and gold). But in some pictures it looks like it actually was orange with black and gold stripes. A friend of mine told me he is almost sure it was black and not brown.... uhmmmm.... any opinions on that?

scroll down a bit for 1970 917 pic
does look a bit black ! but that is probably lightfall
don't think a team like Gunston would actually make such a big change to livery.

TNF member Mike Fairholme has a stunning 1/43 model of the Piper 917 in question.
Maybe he could put a piccie up of it?

If you look closely at the picture on the john love site, the black number is a different shade form the stripe - it is definitely blacker than the stripe, so the stripe must be brown. Just a trick of the light or a quirk of the film emulsion.

Hey! I wrote that tribute to John Love. Its been 'lifted' from my website!

It would have been nice, even courteous, if Mr Sukup had asked permission or given acknowledgement.
Oh well!
Anyway, yes, brown, definitely brown.
With kind regards,
Russell Sheldon

There were a few of these stickers from the original "Perana" club. A friend of my parents worked for Basil Green at the time and gave me over 15 years of South African motoring magazines, which just disapeared over the years. I wish I had them now.
edit also the nose of Hunts M26 which I had, and sold to him for the grand sum of R50 (which was two weeks wages at the time)
