Hi, new member posting for the first time bear with me. I live 2 mls from Saltburn where the darracq 200hp set a world land speed record on 26th june 1909, The present owner Mark Walker is undertaking another restoration and hopes the car will be ready for an appearance at Saltburn on 26th june 2009. Its a moment in time and history which may never be repeated. The owner of the Beast of Turin, Duncan Pittaway, is also restoring his car and hopes to be ready for the event. Marak has asked me to appeal for any pictures film or historical information that has not been seen or previously published to assist him in his restoration.Close ups of chassis in particular. For the historians many other land speed record attempts were made here including Sir Malcom Campbell who failed in an attempt in 1924 in a sunbeam 12 cylinder car as the timing tapes failed to break. The unofficial speed was 145.26 mph. Later on motorcycles took on records to. The area become recognised in 1906 when the York Auto club organised a racing event which not only drew a field of over 100 cars but a crowd of 60,000 spectators. If you have never visited Saltburn you wont understand why that was an incredible achievment on its own.Come to Saltburn in 2009 and see the Darracq , the Beast of Turin and hopefully many other record breakers and see for yourself. Walk the pier, ride the victorian clift lift get a breath of good sea air. Please make contact via the forum for more information.

Hi,

Welcome to the board!

It is great to hear about these projects. Would it be possible to see and hear how each of the restorations are progressing, please (photos would be fantastic!)

Is the latest Darracq rebuild extensive I wonder, or is it just to add minor detailing? The car looked pretty complete and in fine condition when I saw it last year.
