I'm looking for the name of the artist and the song of the tune being played in the BBC F1 intro during late 1980s.. I'm pretty sure many of you have heard it, I always thought it was just a theme song for that program, but a while ago I heard it on my local pub. Nobody there knew what song it was though..

Anybody out there who knows? :)

Edit: Haha, sorry. Posted in the wrong forum, I thought the nostalgia forum would be appropriate.. if somebody could move it there, I'd be grateful.

Hm, still not moved? Well, I give it another go then..

I've also been looking for another F1 theme-song for ages. I still remember a tune that Eurosport played as an intro for their "Grand prix weekend" during 1990. Some kind of rock tuned which started with some electric guitar chords .. this one might be a bit harder. It might not even be a tune, just an intro..

Anybody else than me who might remember it?

Do you mean this one?

I accept there isn't much electric guitar in it, but it's the only one I remember! And I don't know who did it, I'm afraid :).

Nope, but that one is a classic as well. :)

I was always more a fan of Miss Perfect (Christine McVie)!

Also, she wrote the better songs...

Agreed, when the old BBC Sport logo came up on screen and the famous base cords start....ahh the world was a better place back then! Then Murray commentating and sounding like he was on the other side of the world where all the drama was happening as the coverage started with a classic view down on to the track from the TV helecopter! Happy days....

First tune I recall, racing wise, was the Eurovision anthem which introduced 1959 Monaco GP coverage, and anything shown live from the continent.

The BBC end-of-F1-season review (in 1989?) also used Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way".
"The Chain" was also sent over the airwaves (quite illegally) during quiet radio communication periods by one service crew during the RAC Rally (1982?) and did not attract the mass codemnation of other crews that resulted whenever the radio frequency was abused in other ways.

My late grandfather was a motorsport nut. We actually played 'The Chain' at his funeral. That's how tied motorsport and that song have become in a lot of peoples brains.

Sends shivers up my spine every time just thinking about it, and what Murray was going to say.

The way how the music would blend into Mansell's V12 Ferrari (later Senna's Honda V12) screaming down into Copse Corner was genius. It simply wouldn't work with a V10 or V8!

Often he was on the other side of the world from the action :)

Wonder if the Beeb will use The Chain when their Formula One coverage resumes next season.

I certainly hope so...That is just such a suspenseful little piece of music. Maybe they will re-record it to bring it up to date like they did with the Top Gear tune a few years back ("Jessica")
Anyway, it's great to have F1 back at auntie Beebs.
