I am interested in the 917 Vic Elford drove in the 1973 Interserie race at Hockenheim. I have an entry listing that list the car as a 917/10. However the new 1/18th model from Minichamps calls the car a 917/20. I was under the understanding that the only 917/20 was the Pink Pig entered in the 1971 LeMans race. And to even make it more confusing I have a photograph of the very car captioned 917/30 TC. The car look very much like a 917/10 to me. Can anyone provide any further information?

Porsche 917/10, 20 or 30...?

I could be wrong.... if so please forgive me, but I think the car you are talking about was actually a Porsche 917/30 TC (Turbo Charged). In my records it shows as chassis number 917/30-001
There was only one Porsche 917/20 built and you are right, that was the Pink Pig.
Any different opinions?

That's right, it's 917/30.001
I think it was unofficially dubbed /20 'cause the front body is from the /30 & rear from the /10.
30-10=20 ;-)
This car was also ran by H. Kelleners (Weisberg) in 73,Müller & Kinnunen (Martini) in 74 & Müller again (Vaillant) in 75.

Thanks all. I have been able to confirm from Vic's website that the car was a 917/30. Wonder why the model maker who normally does a great job in research calls the car a 917/20?

Maybe just because the chassis was the same than the Pink Pig... And then Porsche named it 917_30 after !

Just purchased the model made by Minichamps. The box is marked 917/20 but the bottom of the model is marked 917/10. Never-the-less it is a very nice model.

The main reason that it was called a 917/20 was that the wheelbase was set the same as the 917/10. 917/30.001 had an extendable wheelbase which was change by fitting different centre sections (3 different centre sections were available) to the chassis. 917/30.001 was actually the development chassis that ultimately configured the specification for the 2 Penske chassis 917/30.002 and 003.
Once 917/30.001 raced at Hockenheim it remained in the same configuration for the rest of its racing career and is still in its 'short wheelbase' spec today.
