There was a Porsche driver at Le Mans in the 90s called Philippe Olczyk.
Some sources say he was Belgian, others Canadian.
Any idea which is correct?

I do want to point out my attempts in posts #150 and #163 to correct the Erickson and Harmon entries in posts. Ernie Erickson and Ray Erickson were two different people and the Bob Harmon listed is the promoter and founder of the All-Pro stock car organization.

And Haine and ReWind, also, it's Doug McGriff.

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography had his father, Ambrose Heal, as the "Life Of The Day", and concludes with a paragraph about Anthony:

Heal's elder surviving son by his second marriage, Anthony Standerwick Heal (1907-1995), shopkeeper and businessman , was born on 23 February 1907 and educated at the Quaker School, Leighton Park, Reading (1919-25), Grenoble University (1925-6), and the Munchener Lehrwerkstatten, Munich (1926-7). He then served an apprenticeship at the Gordon Russell furniture workshops in Broadway, Worcestershire (1927-9). In 1929 he joined the family firm and in 1936 became managing director. In 1941 he married Theodora Caldwell, nee Griffin (d. 1992); they had two sons. During the war he served in the Home Guard. As chairman of Heals from 1953, he counted among his particular responsibilities advertising and promotions. His interests in china, glass, and fabrics helped to diversify the stock, and he introduced 'his-and-hers' four-poster beds. He was much concerned with technical education in the furniture industry, and he served as master of the Furniture Makers' Guild (1959-60), president of the Design and Industries Association (1965), and chairman of the Independent Stores Association (1970-72), and was on the council of the City and Guilds of London Institute (1969-81). However, the firm suffered from fashion and market changes, and in 1983 it was bought by Terence Conran's Habitat-Mothercare group. Heal continued his association for another year, working on the company archives, which were given to the Victoria and Albert Museum. He was an enthusiastic owner and racer of veteran and vintage sports cars, especially Sunbeams-on which he published a definitive book in 1989-and was a founder in 1934 and became captain in 1947 of the Vintage Sports Car Club. Also keen on traction engines, he bought a huge 1916 artillery tractor which he drove to rallies. A quiet, reserved man, Heal died on 25 March 1995. He was survived by his two sons.

Just in case anyone is interested.

Hello dear friends,

I've got a problem with these pics :

In the first, the inscription say : BIRKIN, CHASSAGNE and KENSINGTON MOIR (LE MANS 1930)
Posted Image

In this one : left to right CLEMENT, KIDSTON, KENSINGTON MOIR, BARNATO, WERNER, WATNEY and Mrs & Rudolf CARACCIOLA also in LE MANS 1930
Posted Image

Who is the "good" Herbert KENSINGTON MOIR ?

Thanks for your answer.

To the question above "Who is the good Kensington Moir"

Herbert "Bertie" Kensington Moir was a racing and sprint car driver in his youth who be came a team manager. He began driving for Straker-Squire (I think he was Mr Straker's nephew) at Brooklands and in public road sprints and hillclimbs, before he went onto drive for Lionel Martin's Aston Martin team where he also acheived success at Brookands and sprints. He then joined Bentley Motors (as a salesman I believe) and drove in the occasional race for the works team before becoming team manager for the Birkin and Couper Bentley Team at Phoenix Park and Le Mans in 1930 and also drove a blower 4.5 in that year's Tourist Trophy as a stand-in driver. he finished 11th overall and first in the 3000-5000cc class.

I don't think the bald-headed gent in the second larger group photo is Kensington Moir (the half seen mechanic behind Kidston is Stan Ivermee)

DriverDatabase gives 24 May 1944 as Clemens Schickentanz’ birthday.

It seems Urs Steigmeier from Switzerland provided that date. Since I don’t know where he got it from I can’t say anything about its reliability.

I've read the 6 pages of this thread once again and I'm happy to have found the confirmation about a little detail / error in statistic.

Georges Berger was quoted in Moity's Le Mans book 1923-1983 and many websites as having taking part in the race 3 times.

In 1958, Pathey / Berger, 9th (AC Bristol n°27).
in 1961, Berger / L. Bianchi, DNF (Ferrari 250 GT n°15).
In 1962, Berger / Darville, DNF (Ferrari 250 GT n°59).

In fact, there were 2 different Georges Berger. In 1958 it was the Swiss driver, the other years the well known Belgian.

During the same week-end of the 21 and 22 June 1958, George Berger / Foiret took part and finished 37th in the Mille Miglia (the Rallye) while Pathey / Berger were at Le Mans, classified 9h.

question solved...

It shouldn't be Henry Taylor who was reserve driver for this race, as you can see here.

Some time ago on this thread there was a discussion about Doreen Evans. She's just come up as a subject on another forum, where it's stated that at the time of her death she was indeed Mrs Doreen Boyer. No source, but it confirms Reinard's research.

AUTRICHE / AUSTRIA
Ernst Berg

Dear Haine,
A small correction: Ernst Berg (competing once at Le Mans in 1977) is 100% Dutch! He competed in the Dutch touringcarchampionship, starting with an Austin Cooper S (1968-1969), later with a 1.6L Ford Escort TC (1970-1976). In 1973 Berg won the championship in the poorly attended 1300-2000 class.

Dick Vermeesch = Dick Vermeersch

Not quite! In fact his given name is Dirk, full name Dirk Georges Evarist Maria Vermeersch, and because he also drove rallyes we know from RallyBase that he was born on 19 June 1952.
