No more glamorous ladies I would imagine.

Always thought they should give the opportunity to local school kids or youth groups.

Oh man, what is it that you are proposing?   :well:

When I read over that I realised it read with the exact opposite meaning I intended. Hence the swift edit!

No worries. I wasn't being entirely serious you know.  :smoking:

As for the issue brought up here, I couldn't care less either way. However one thing I do care about is for F1 NOT to follow the path of Football as it's not in the spirit of F1 and racing in general (IMO).

To get rid of the grid girls is long over due. I actually like the idea with the kids. It is one of the nicer moments in football, when the teams enter the stadium accompanied by school children.

I'm not at all keen on using women as decoration in any walk of life. So I hope they stop having the grid/podium/walk-of-awkwardness girls.

It's a shame for all the women who'd be out of a job though. Perhaps they could take over at race control.

Not sure if trolling...

If serious though: How exactly is that 'one of the nicer moments in football'? I guess you aren't much of a football fan then?

I’d be sad to see no more grid girls in the sport, but I could live without it.

Given that more than one woman I’ve known has commented that they’d love to try being a grid girl if I’ve watched F1 with them around, I don’t see why there’s any problem.

Children are banned from most grids sadly.

It would be nice to relax that rule and invite the local karting clubs down to participate.

It’s been coming for years. Grid girls are rather outdated, and their use has already been minimised to the extent you barely notice them outside of that weirdly awkward wall of clapping girls on the way to the cool down room. The teams and sponsors stopped using decorative girls at their events years ago, which most F1 fans were probably thankful of as it meant we could get to the cars quicker at the launch.

Something like the young racers who got to be "grid kids" in the FormulaE Montreal race.

I thought it was a good idea  :)

Grid Kid at Formula E. Like finding out you're going to walk out of the tunnel at a football match, hoping for Manchester United and getting Yeovil Town.

I think alternatives are good. The gird guys at Monaco recently was an interesting idea, felt less backwards but wasn't really all that different. I would much rather see passionate fans and/or children in those spots, though preferably not to the highest bidder.

Grid girls actually like being grid girls, you know.

My ex girlfriend was a professional promotion model and was hired as a grid girl every so often and she loved it, it was something she did few times a year and she always looked forward to those weekends. It's no different to girls who are bikini models at fashion shows, it's something they choose to do by themselves, nobody forces them to do so whatsoever. It's a shame today's political correct people don't seem to understand that some women actually just like to wear those kind of outfits and feel pretty doing so.

They aren't allowed to feel good about it. Women didn't campaign for the right to do what they wanted to do without interference, just so other women could go about their business doing what they want to do, free from interference. These young women have to learn that they should want to do what those campaigners who went before them consider acceptable.

Of course they can do and that's not the issue.Though  I'm pretty sure the women I've seen standing around wearing not much at all on a freezing grid at Silverstone might question if it's worth it. The backwards bit for me isn't having a model standing there feeling good about themselves, it's having a whole grid of them in a predetermined (occasionally unsuitable) outfit set by the series management or sponsors.

I don't know. It's a tricky one - but I think it's right to at least review it.

It's not because grid girls are being forced against their will.

The issue is it sends the message that women are there for decoration.

Men drive the fast cars, women are there to look pretty... it's a hugely outdated idea and about timed it's done away with.

Should mean no more cringey "corridor of clunge" on the way to the podium as well...

Grid kids eh? I wasn't allowed into the pits and garages at Indianapolis or any other track until I was of age due to safety concerns. If some of you are so against a woman choosing her occupation - how can you support putting the children in danger? Oh, that's right, someone mentioned karting children, well by God, we better stop that too! This world is going absolutely in-effing-sane.

For me the issue isn't mere existence of models etc as some seem to suggest, but that they don't have anything to do with racing. It's just not the right place for it.

I remember pretty girls (and ugly ones too :)) at races since I started attending IndyCar and Formula 1 events more than 50 years ago. Some of them in the pits and garages as I peered through the fenced area that I wasn't allowed into. Oh - the horror!

Pretty people are used for decoration everywhere in the world. Those women who were in the Transformer movies were not there because of their acting abilities. I have no problem with pretty men and women being used as decoration.

What's wrong with the grid girls?

Maybe if we called them grid persons and clad them in head to toe dirty overalls it would be more acceptable to the perpetual

offended brigade.

Personally I like looking at a bunch of happy pretty ladies all enjoying their work and i guess they must be enjoying it or none of

them would bother turning up.

The key in this is men AND women. What does it say for a racing series of only male drivers to use only women as decoration?

Carrying on the practice with both grid girls and grid guys might be a sensible compromise.

A pretty lass is made infinitely prettier when she's in oily overalls, holding a socket set, than if she's in some sort of Spandex catsuit.

IMO, obviously.

While I have no particular issue with grid girls, men, kids, elves or whatever I do think it shouldn't be just 1 type at a time.

I guess we can't say F1 is being Americanised if they are getting rid of the F1 equivalent of cheerleaders.

Good. Give these spots to someone who actually enjoy the experience and are somehow related with racing.

As for the people worried about these girls going unemployed... Well, tough luck, they'll have to look for a real job.

I have no problem with them removing this at all, however I hope they don't replace them with kids, ughh no.

How about a raffle at each race and fans are picked from the crowd to do it?  (male and female), Who wouldn't want the chance to stand on the grid next to the cars?

I don't think there are any rules against women competing in F1

Modeling is not a new profession; I'm confident those involved find it to be a real job.

https://www.thebalan...odeling-2379382

Some people are able to work and make a great living doing things they love, and it doesn't always mean it is properly "real" in yours or others eyes. That shouldn't diminish the fact they are gainfully employed. Are we going to now propose a list of work that only you (and others who are likeminded) approve of?

Better a grid girl than some obnoxious tit with a rich daddy, or worse still an 'on trend' Instagram account, roaming the grid with no clue about the sport, trying to get their face on camera to 'promote their brand' ... or Justin Bieber.

They don't serve any clear purpose other than titillation. It would be different if they had some clear function. As a female viewer I find them mildly off putting, because they seem to send a message that this is a sport aimed at men only.

They may as well ....  move with the times .... get rid of petrol altogether and go electric .... make the engines as quiet as possible ... have a separate class for female drivers ... etc etc  .... the 10 people still watching will be happy .
