Gunnar Bengtsson is not the same. He was also a good rallydriver and won the swedish rally 1951 in a Lago. He died some years ago. Sture Nottorp who drive Le Mans together with him was also a good rallydriver and won the swedish rally 1953 the year before he made his first Le Mans
Harry Bengtsson won the swedish rally 1956 and as long as I know he was mostly a rallydriver. He is still active and I saw him this summer in a historic rally driving a Porsche

I suggest that if compiling a database it would be safer to use First International Rally and then there would be no ambiguity.
Some clubs ran what were little more than treasure hunts and called them rallies. For example: I believe that Jim Clark's first competitive events were 'rallies' organised by the local Young Farmers' Club driving his father's car. These would have been very amateur events not requiring a competition licence. But his true rally debut was probably when he shared an Austin Healey in the Scottish Rally (I think that's correct but I don't have his biography to hand)

I couldn't agree more! I have no idea of what was my first rally but do remember all the internationals.
Incidentally, is all this information about to appear on some great rallying website?

I would like to thank You all !
About 'first rally' I think better way is to consider the first rally who made part of any championship. I took this option from Martin Holmes and many times, different sources had different data. Some of them consider the real first road rally and others the first international rally.
One of these days I was searching something and noticed that for example Tony Pond, say Martin Holmes that his first rally was in a Hillman IMP in 65 but that newspaper I was reading indicates his debut in a BMC in 64.
About database, yes, a huge database , not yet finnished so... not yet published. But there are some good ones on the net, Rallybase and the other one from Jonkka.
Best regards from Portugal

No, Marianne Hoepfner (oe = replacement for ö?) is the correct spelling. And this site http://www.rallye-in...sp?driverid=383 gives another date of birth.
If you look closely you will find that there are numerous drivers who allegedly were born on "11 Nov 50"!
I.e.: The author of that site gives this date every time he doesn't know the real one!
(IMHO he should be punished for doing so!)
