And near Gatwick airport too. Sounds like a great idea.
I’ll be here for St Pete..... if I can make it back from San Sebastián

Wow, I am a month and a half late to the realization that the Civil War tour is off the table. Oh well! Just last week I told someone not to come to Las Vegas that weekend because I was going to be elsewhere.
I do want to make sure I get to at least one race this year (won't be able to make it to the Rolex, despite wanting to every year), so I'd better at least keep my commitment to Long Beach.

Elkhart Lake rules.
I should confess here that this topic is rated one star because I fat-fingered the ratings button trying to hit "Racing Comments" on my phone. I can't find a way to correct the error. Apologies.

Not even mod magic can fix that. But I’ve given it a 5 star to cancel it out.

Sheboygan is ideal. I've also stayed in Fond du Lac, which isn't too bad a drive and not too crowded besides. Milwaukee is a bit of a hike, particularly after a long day.

I'm not Ross Stonefeld, but I can recommend the Holiday Inn at 4601 Calumet Ave in Manitowoc, 35 minutes away from the track, decent rates, and usually little traffic headed in and out (actually managed to find my travel notes this time). For places to eat, check out Big Al Capone's in North Fond du Lac for a small pub, and Time Out Sports Bar in Manitowoc. Oh, and the staff at the Perkins by the hotel are great, too; there used to be a waitress there named Kendra who really wanted to go see a race at the track. I wonder if she ever did.Ratings are over rated.
I’m working on my RA trip next week.
A few questions
1: Does it make sense to stay in Milwaukee and drive in ?
Or what about Sheboygan is that close enough.
Ross Stonefeld ... please be my travel agent.

I also stayed in Manitowoc one year for the vintage races, and the drives on two lane roads through the countryside (forget I-43) to and from the track were nearly Zen.

Sheboygan is plenty close. I go to RA every year for Classic Racing with my friends old Formula Fords. I stay in Sheboygan or outskirts. There is a Holiday Inn Express I stay in across the street from a Harley dealer. Next to Walmart. About 20-25 minute drive in with no traffic.

I'll be driving up from outside of Philly.
Actually, I'm already going to be in the Chicago area for about a week for a guitar event before the race weekend, so it just works perfectly that Road America is only about a 3 hr drive from where I'll be
Afterburner, red stick, sblick, djparky: Thanks for the suggestions on where to stay, as it will be my first time up there also.

OTOH, I will still be attending the Amelia Island Concours in March honoring Roger Penske. Any other takers?
red stick, I'll be bringing my buddy along (if you paid attention, we were down at the Roar Befoar the Twentyfoar with paulb just moments ago! I'm a bit sticker shocked at the admission price and will only be able to go Sunday, so would be great if we can put our heads together - would love some pointers, and to meet you there!

Max! It's not cheap, I'll grant you. It's a charity event staged on a resort golf course hosted at a Ritz-Carlton. But it's an amazing collection of whatever they decide to show, which this year includes, but is in no way limited to, cars from Roger Penske's long career, 1930s and 1950s Mercedes race cars, Harley Earl's most famous show cars, and a collection of prototype Corvettes. MSNBC is airing an show about last year's event January 28 with a preview for this year's. The trailer shows just part of what goes on.

And I found a few shots from my visit in 2014, where Ghia was the featured designer and Offenhauser-powered cars a featured honoree.

My rationalization regarding the ticket prices is that it's a field of several hundred museum quality cars all in the same place, so if you factor in the costs of travelling to and paying admission at a dozen (or more) auto museums, Amelia Island is a relative bargain.
Your rationalization may vary.
Posted 20 January 2020 - 17:58
I'm going to be attending the Indy 500 with my brother and a friend. Perhaps someone can give me an idea of the quality of my tickets. As a first time buyer it was the best I could get (without using Stubhub or some other resale site). Our Stand is C, Section S18 Seats GG/9-11.
Thanks,
Paul

Price also includes a Ritz Carlton lunch and event poster. Those could easily be $50 alone. My rationalization regarding the ticket prices is that it's a field of several hundred museum quality cars all in the same place, so if you factor in the costs of travelling to and paying admission at a dozen (or more) auto museums, Amelia Island is a relative bargain.

Awesome seats if so.

I believe the Hulman suites are above Stand C. I've looked for detailed seat diagrams online that show rows and seats but no luck.

Sweet. Thanks Jon!
That's really helpful. Not bad seats at all. We'll see the cars as they come through the short chute and exit turn 4. Good view of the pit entry and a number of pit boxes. Seats have overhead cover too so we won't bake in the Indiana sun.

Thanks for asking, Mark. Unfortunately, health issues in the family have put a temporary kibosh on such excursions.
Have a blast, take and post lots of pictures, and say hi to Mr. Penske for us.
