M66R's query (thanks!) gave me the idea to have a single place for Indycar fans to see who is going to be where this coming 2020 Indycar season. As great as you all are on the board, the handful of folks I have met are amazingly, even kooler in person. There is nothing like the camaraderie of true racing fans.

I have started a tally based on speculations in the 2019 season topic. As people update their plans, I will update the list.

Happy racing!

I continuously look for any excuse to come to the States in my work, but I have so far been unsuccessful. As soon as the stars align, I will be there like a shot and hopefully able to come to a race or two!

I'll be in Denver next September, so maybe I'll try to squeeze the Seca in there as well if everything goes better than expected.

Possibly silly suggestion here.
Newport News might be an option....
If we can’t find anything decent in Richmond.

Not at all, isn’t an extended drive to the track one of the charms of attending a racing weekend? :)

Another thing, we need red sticks input on the probability and timing of any Civil War tour activities.

I must say I enjoyed staying within walking distance of the 500, and I think I would have enjoyed a bus at Daytona more than the drive we did back and forth Paul.

Saying that, is the Norfolk near Newport news the Norfolk of the Norfolk Navy yard that was burned by the Union before it was captured by the Confederacy?

I understand, Piper, on both counts! Walking distance would be a luxury and a bus luxurious and partious.

I do not know the answer to your question but it does seem probable.

It's called Yorktown. Have you lived in Britain so long you can't speak it?

Re Indy...yes I was quite envious of that as it took me 90 minutes to do a 15 mile drive after I'd spent an hour or so waiting for the traffic to clear...still fab day though..

I'd like to get to Road America in 2020; Mid-Ohio too, but its late starting time isn't enticing. Though I may be retired by then...

I visited my first Indycar venue on Friday. Unfortunately the car park at the Pepsi Center in Denver was highly uninspiring. (I was there for the NBA)

Also, having landed back in the UK after 8 nights away, I can safely say I love America

I would get on it fairly quickly, you don't want to end up in any of the lower seats and have obstructed views.

I regret to inform all that family events scheduled for next June, including a by-now cliche June wedding (heck, we married in May to avoid the rush), will prevent me from going to Richmond's Indycar race.

The price of peace is rarely so high.   :well:

Aim for high up in the turns..I sat high in north west vista in turn 3 and had an amazing view of turn 2, back straight, turns 3 and 4

I believe JP and I had AA seats in turn 3, I wouldn’t go any lower than that.

It's automobile nirvana.  The entire undercard has not been announced yet, but so far they'll also be celebrating the cars and career of GM designer Harley Earl.

Adios civil war tour.

Jp

Sorry about that.  If there is still interest in the Newport News/Hampton area, the Mariner's Museum and Park have several items of interest raised from the wreck of the USS Monitor, and Fortress Monroe is worth the visit.

https://www.monitorcenter.org/

In the Richmond area, the U.S. National Park Service is your friend, with several sites in the surrounding area related to the battles of 1862 and 1864-65, and the newly revamped Civil War Museum downtown is a gem.

So, if you were mildly interested in the Amelia Islands Concours in March, and honoring Penske wasn't enough to move you, and the cars of designer Harley Earl are old hat, how about seeing every significant experimental Corvette from days of yore?

https://myemail.cons...aid=F0P_5J_9OzU

The GS IIB will join the CERV I, CERV II, Corvette XP-819. XP-895, XP-897 GT, Aerovette, CERV III and the Indy Corvette on the Amelia Concours’ Silver Anniversary field on March 8, 2020 for an unprecedented Corvette reunion to celebrate the arrival of the mid-engine C8.

As the Pakistani cook said on Seinfeld, you are a very bad man!

I'm not a Corvette fan, but it would be cool to see those and the Earl cars in da aluminum flesh.

The car show is only on Sunday?

There are a number of events throughout the weekend, and the Cars & Coffee event on Saturday draws some interesting vehicles, but the Concours proper is Sunday only.

i have a bit of sticker shock, and would only be able to attend Sunday... is it worth it?  Never been...  when is all the Penske stuff going down?  Penske cars on display?  Couldn't really find much on their website.

Sunday. They're to have 25 cars he drove or important to the history of Penske Racing. If you Google photos of past events or check You Tube videos of same you'll get a sense of the quality of the displays. It's like Pebble Beach East.

From my morning email:

Five Penske Indy 500 winners to grace the field at Amelia Island.

Jacksonville, FL -- Five Team Penske Indianapolis 500-winning cars will form the core of the Silver Anniversary Amelia’s “Penske Indy Winners" class.

1972 McLaren M16B/Offenhauser - Mark Donohue’s record setter and Team Penske’s first of 18 “500” winners
1988 Penske PC-17/Chevrolet - Rick Mears' Indy pole car and “500” winner
1994 Penske PC-23 Mercedes-Benz 500I Al Unser Jr wins in “The Beast”
2009 Dallara IR-06/Honda - Helio Castroneves’ third Indy “500” winner
2019 Dallara DW-12/Chevrolet - Simon Pagenaud's pole winner and Team Penske Indy 500 win number 18!

They should pose the PC23 with the engine cover off.
