I'm just surprised Rory's mum doesn't know where he is tbh.Rory Byrne is known to be the best formel 1 designer of all time. He showed Newey a lesson how to built a car and is the Most succesfull F1 Designer of all Time. Where is he after he left Ferrari?

Since last year he, and newey have 10 WCC each.
In terms of wins/points/poles I cant say who is more successful, is it Byrne?

Didn't he start a scuba diving school in Thailand?
Scuba diving - isn't that the excuse all ageing Western men heading out to Thailand use?

He's been married to a Thai lady since at least the mid 90s so in this case it would a reasonable excuse. I remember reading that he intended to retire to Phuket after his contract with Ferrari finished in 2007 way back in 2005.

He was really successful ,yes, but not the best ever...or at least there's no way to measure that since he was in Ferrari on a period of time where the Bridgestone tyres were constructed around his car and just his car and not the other way round...so his life was much easier than that of the designers at present

Newey and Byrne are the most successful designers ever, having drafted the cars winning the most Championships and wins. I am not at home, so do not have the details fully up to date, however in another thread last year I started by claiming Byrne to be the leader, however when checking who was credited with which cars.
Newey are leading Byrne with some 10 - 15 wins in total if I take my recollection of the numbers from early last year, and then add what the Red Bull drivers have achieved since then.
'Just' counting wins and championships, is not really ever going to be the full and whole story. Like there really is no comparison between Fangion, Clark and Schumacher, we should all be able to agree that they belong to 'The Great ones', and I would argue that both of Byrne and Newey does as well in their part of F1.

Yep they are succesful every, but greatest as you said is very hard to define, especially when there is so many others who can claim various distinctions, you could make a list of notable designers, they would top the list but you'd have to mention murry, chapman, barnard and many others

He'd probably design a better car than jackass who designed the W01 and W02.He is more likely to go to Mercedes to be with MSC and Brawn, than Ferrari. But he won't come back so it doesn't matter. He doesn't have a feel for these regulations anyway so its not a given that he'd instantly design a quick car.

This is undeniably true. Merc, rather like Honda, seem destined to produce a 'good' car year after year, but never ever make that final step. Does rather smack of a 'good' but ultimately limited designer(s).He'd probably design a better car than jackass who designed the W01 and W02.

We must not understand that at all and we saw that Ferrari had no particular advantage when all the other teams got Bridgestones. Michelin adapted their tires to their top teams as well, but both of them basically tried to make a good tire within the regulations that FiA had set up. Byrne was, and is, a great designer, but I am quite sure that Bridgestone are better at making tires. Before we compare designers we must understand that Byrne had tyres designed around the car (and driver). 'Back then' the tyres were tailored for the Ferrari, and Schumacher. He was obviously a great designer, I mean every car tried copied certain elements from the Ferrari's he designed but its impossible to attribute success down to only him (or Newey).

I thought that the reason that his cars won all those championships was that Michael Schumacher was the best driver of all time.Rory Byrne is known to be the best formel 1 designer of all time. He showed Newey a lesson how to built a car and is the Most succesfull F1 Designer of all Time. Where is he after he left Ferrari?
Or was it because Ross Brawn was the best technical director of all time?
It could have been because Jean Todt was the best team principal of all time.
Possibly because Enzo Ferrari was the best deceased team founder of all time.
If you've got the most wins, that could only be because everything you had was the best of all time. Ferrari were so good, they even had the best FIA President of all time on the team.

Because Michelin had a better tyre? I don't think you understand the concept of "custom build" here either. Bridgestone built tyres and Ferrari comes with suggestions for small modifications, just as the Michelin teams did. These modification can be best compared to setup changes. In any case, since Ferrari did not have any advantage when they all used Bridgestone (and most Michelin drivers hated them) I think it is prefectly possible that Rory created winning vehicles in spite of Bridgestone.
yeah right, you really believe that bridgestone didn't custom build the tyres to suit ferrari, why do you think all the other teams left them.

if we get to turkey and redbull have won all 4 races, well, then I'm saying the season is over.... Vettel hasn't really been pushed yet and besides some reliability gremlins, they appear to be miles ahead.....
Newey is the most valuable man in F1..... the only man who ever competed with him and built cars which beat his, was Rory Byrne...
so, where is Rory? Ross, give him a call and make an offer...... because otherwise, this might just be on of those seasons like 1988 (15 of 16 races for Mclaren), 2002, 2004 etc....
well done to Redbull; but the battle could really be for 2nd by the time Turkey ends...

I have this thoughts that it is a younger generation who needs to come forward. Everybody needs to do what is best for him at a time like this. I am missing new face who can take challenge to Newey. Tombasis, wil he step his game up?

Ferrari were not winning when Byrne left. They were empty handed his last two years even with same driver as before. Then when he left, they started winning again with both WDC and WCC. So it's the opposite as if they were winning and then Byrne left and they stopped winning.
Now Ferrari has the same designers as in 2007 (ie when they were back to winning again). In other words, all this talk about Byrne seems like exactly the kind of barking up wrong tree/placing blame in wrong area as has gotten Ferrari into their problems in the first place.

To be fair, 2005 was ruined completely by the Bridgestones. 2006 Renault had the illegal mass dempers the first half of the season. As soon as they were banned they were right back on it. And the designer in 2006 surely had a big influence on the 2007 car that took the WDC home. The difference between Ferrari today and the last time they were the winning team is the driver (not the designer).
