I'm missing detailed results from sportscar races in the years 1946 - 1952 and - not so important, but also interesting - before 1934.
(Le Mans, Targa Florio, Mille miglia and Tourist Trophy are well documented and therefore not part of my actual question.)
To the years between 1926 and 1933: This is an exiting puzzle! There was a splitting between GP/Voiturette and Sportscar racing, but not clearly defined. In the years 1926/1927 the 'on-board-mechanic' disappeared and monoposti became allowed. GP racing and F1 allowed two-seaters and mudguards/streamliners even the first years of championship (till 1958?, don't know exactly).
And then there was a second splitting, between sportscars and rallye-cars. Rallies ... from when on we can call them rallies? I think, in the earliest beginnings of motorracing we had real rallies !? Rough Road-Surfaces, Point-to-Point-Races about many 100 of miles, an soon speeds over 100 km/h; can you imagine that? Wow.
Who can help me closing my above mentioned gap by calling some sources (www or books)
Thank you for your friendly helping me
E.T.

Austria
Hello again ! I see that you have the ability of using your torch to try to see through the deepest holes of the wall, so to speak.
I strongly suggest you have a conversation with my friend Leif Snellman about this...
;-)
Un abrazo

PS : Oh yes, this is the moment for me to borrow Don Capps' motto (just this time): If this was easy, we'd have the solution already...

Grand Prix Racing Facts & Figures - Monkhouse & King-Farlow. Published 1950, 53, 59 & 64 (I have the 64 edition).
This gives race results way back, anything that smelled like a serious race, by the look of things, and lists the category for which it was held - for example:
W. K. Vanderbilt Cup:
600 cu ins (9.8l) 1909 Long Island 278miles, then lists first three places.
or:
Tunis Grand Prix:
Sports Cars 1929 Bardo ---- J. Scaron (Amilcar) etc
Note that distance is missing, sometimes placegetters are missing, but the vast majority is there.

Hallo Felix !
Thanks for answering me. Unfortunatly my forch seems to be a week candle.
I'm sorry, I didn't have the possibility yet to converse with Leif S.; must be a pleasure. I have a lot of sportscar-data about the years 1934 - 1940 from his site THE GOLDEN ERA OF GRANDPRIX RACING: http://www.kolumbus....nellman/spo.htm
Leif:
I know the bibliography of yout famous page, can you tell me, what kind of sources could help me closing my gap? Maybe there is something about sportscar-racing in the period from 1946 to 1952?
And last, NOT least Ray!
Thanks for helping me again. I think, the book you suggested, will be a great aid.
Can you tell me the publisher?
At that point:
I find, this forum is a 'Dickes Ding'
(sorry, but translating is not able to express the sense). It is something of famous ...
Thank you, all the makers, go on doing. I enjoy just reading through the threads, but of course the most amazing is to post a topic and to get an answer in a short time - often in a few hours.

Publishers were G. T. Foulis & Co Ltd, sorry I missed out on putting that in. There may have been a later edition, but I don't think so. There are thousands of race results listed.

Austria,
I have to admit that I don't know much about sports car racing. I have always concentrated on GP racing. The reason for the sports car results being on my homepage is that they came as a "bonus" when I did the research about the French GP teams in the pre-war era. Much of the more "exotic" stuff comes from Anthony Blight's book (costs a fortune!) So I thought, why don't
put them on my page as well as they probably are hard to find.
One book that I strongly recommended to anyone interested in sports car racing is the Brooklands Racing books's "Mille Miglia 1927-1951 - The Alfa And Ferrari years."
There is alsa a second part (1952-57) The corresponding Le Mans book is in five parts and I haven't seen the pre-war Le Mans parts but I guess they are equally god.
Sorry that I couldnt help you further.
Regards,
L.
